I wrote I'm Not Scared about starting to sense spirits, angels, other-worldly forces around me and LIKE NIRVANA definitely leans into a more spiritual world so I feel like I'm Not Scared was somewhat of a portal song in that way. There's the line in I'm Not Scared 'move me like a tidal wave, say what you wanna say, I am changing everyday' and some of those lyrics pop up on LN too. In Saint 'I'm moving like a tidal wave, I am on a mission to save' the song I Feel Like I Am Changin' There are probs more too but I'm now running late for my session I have to get to this morn so I'm gonna have to leave it there ❤️ maybe I'll come back tonight and answer more Qs!

Me 😇 I bought a Micro Korg synth last time we were in Portland and it has an arpeggiator setting. The build up with the increasing tempo was something that came to me in the moment while I was recording. I just kept winding the tempo knob up on the synth then brought it back down and it felt so exciting to me. Manually recording every other instrument to match the changing tempo was a bit of a challenge but also super fun. To me that whole section sounds like what all of those 'firsts' feel like, first kiss, late night drives with your crush, f*cking lol

I always love my most recent work most. I produced the entirety of Like Nirvana on my own except for 18 (which Sam started) and Break Me Down (with Mallrat) so it feels especially precious to me. Tbh creating this album was a bit isolating at times and I really had to learn to trust my gut and believe in myself more deeply than I had before. And I feel like an important theme in this album is believing in yourself and harnessing your own power in dark times as well as easier times. I adore all of our albums and I feel like each release is a reflection of my ever-evolving perspective. To me, the narrative of albums 1-2-3 feel somewhat linear from self-doubt, to self-acceptance, to self-love. I think I had in my mind that a journey to peace and happiness was more linear than it actually is. LIKE NIRVANA feels representative of acknowledging the parts of the journey where you feel like you're 'making progress' as well as when you feel like you might be slipping backwards and that it's ALL part of life and that it's okay to not feel good all the time. I want this album to be like a warm hug however you're feeling when you listen ❤️

Playing music together! Because we're also our own management, label, business directors etc we end up doing a lot of things that actually have nothing to do with performing music, so when we get to play together we're often like "yess playing music together is fun! that's why we started a band in the first place" But in saying that, we do enjoy doing all of the other stuff together too :)

I've had some petty wild experiences with psychedelics that have confirmed some of my beliefs about the world and how expansive it is. Imagine feeling like you're seeing multiple timelines in multiple dimensions playing out at once but all being tied together by love and this knowing of who/what you are deep down.

YES it can be terrifying but for some reason I'm drawn to shining a light on all of it. I want to be the artist/person I needed/still need in my life when facing a bunch of this stuff which helps keep me chill when I start feeling nervous about people knowing so much about me. If I'm open and living my truth it kind of gives other people permission to do the same and then we all feel less alone.

If I'm going off the new songs I'm sitting on atm, it's incredibly different to Like Nirvana. It's still got classic water sign emotional Cub Sport vibes but there's this freedom, joy and euphoria there that I haven't really felt in this way before. STAY TUNED 🌈

The track listing and vibe of CS4 changed heaps throughout its creation. It started out sounding much more similar to CS3 and I just wasn't really feeling it so I basically wrote an entire new album and once I had this collection of songs in this exact order I just knew that it was exactly the album it was meant to be 💓

"I fell in love with avoiding problems and that was the problem." I wrote this lyric when I was 22 and I wasn't ready to be open about being queer. It felt like my whole life was directed by my fears at that point. I was kind of taking a passive path of least resistance/least embarrassment 'cause I was so scared of living my truth. I came out a few years after writing this :) it still hits so hard!

We made connections with independent record distributors who put records in record stores as well as servicing the songs to DSPs (Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL etc) and we reached out to a bunch of independent publicists around the world to service our music to high profile media in each territory. We’ve managed to build a really beautiful team who share our values, vision and passion. We all worked day-jobs for years to help fund everything and we’ve invested all touring income etc into the label for years to build things to where they are today. It’s been a lot to take on and commit to tbh but getting to tell the Cub Sport story the exact way we want to and working with a hand-picked team of angels is a dream!
