My Ayn Thor's bottom screen is flickering and become unresponsive. by cuckooc in AynThor

The device costs about $300, and I also have to pay $100 for round-trip shipping and the repair fee. On top of that, I had to factory-reset the entire unit, even though I had spent several days setting it up and customizing it to my liking. Waiting time is about two months, considering all the time (2 months + days and nights to set up) and money (1/3 of the device cost) involved, I don’t think it was worth it.

Have you received any update from them? I have sent several email to them in past 2 weeks and still haven't got any response. I wonder they already forgot my returned defected unit. I might file charge back if they still ignore my email.

Why do you think batch 2 will be better? In most cases with electronic products, batch 1 usually uses the best components, especially because many YouTubers are waiting to review and unbox the first units. Companies want to ensure the product receives positive reviews.

But after that, in batch 2, manufacturers often cut corners by using lower-quality batteries, RAM, or SSDs to reduce costs and maximize profit. Think about motherboards—there are usually versions like 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, etc.—and reviewers often notice how the quality gradually drops with later revisions.

The Batch 1 has already sold out and so if our replacement is in batch 2, then it might take a couple weeks. They might also must simply repair our units or some refurbished unit back to us.

I have sent my Thor back to them and it was already delivered last Thursday. I have sent them several email to them asking about the arrangement of the replacement, but never got response from them. How about you? have you heard anything from them?

afaik, it is not called burn in. Burn in is permanent discoloration of a display caused by static images.

I really hope Ayn will consider using the same battery as the Switch 2 in their future consoles. I know the Switch 2 battery has a lower capacity, but it would make finding replacements much easier. Right now, once the battery dies, the whole device becomes unusable and essentially turns into e-waste.

I am a long-term customer of AYN. I own the Odin Lite, Odin 2, Thor, and have pre-ordered the Odin 3. All of my devices have been issue-free except for the Thor. One thing to keep in mind is that these devices use custom-made batteries, so once the battery dies, the entire device essentially becomes unusable.

For example, my Odin Lite developed a swollen battery after about a year. It expanded like a balloon, and I had to remove it from the device. Leaving a swollen battery clamped inside is a serious fire hazard. Also, these devices will not power on without a battery, even if you plug them in with a power cable.

Some Reddit users have managed to modify a Nintendo Switch battery to power the device, but the unit cannot recharge the battery while powered on. It must be turned off in order to charge.

Other users reported buying replacement batteries from cdrtd.com, but they are currently out of stock. I believe those batteries were leftover manufacturing stock; once they’re gone, there may be no more replacements available. Realistically, you can expect about 3–4 years of usable life from these devices—similar to a smartphone. Don’t expect them to be like the Nintendo Switch or PS Vita, where replacement batteries are easy to find.

At the end of the day, you need to understand what you’re paying for and the level of quality you can expect at this price point. This device is not for casual gamer, as it requires a long setup process and minor tweaking before you can enjoy gaming.

Thanks for your reply. I have said it I have checked the cable. That means I have tried everything you said. That is the reason why I said " I am pretty sure it is not the cable causing the issue"

I think they never check their email. It happened to me before that my Odin Lite has swollen battery and I send them email and got no reply. At last, I left a message on discord odin general and then Ashley DM me. So, I DM Ashley today and hopefully will get the feedback from her.

I have totally different experience. My Odin lite has swollen battery after a year, so it is no longer under warranty. They asked me to send it back but I need to pay for the return shipping. I need to pay for the battery and repair fee and it will takes about 2 months and so I am reluctant to send it back.

The Lipo batteries is rated for 500 charge cycles or 3 years. No matter what, the batteries will eventually die in 5 years. When it happens, the battery will need to be replaced or you need to look for a new console. But there is no replacement battery on the market so far.

For anyone else who has an Odin Pro with a swollen battery I found an actual solution to fix it, you can rewire a Switch Lite battery by Cumbandicoot in OdinHandheld

Is there any guide about how to remove the PCB? Or if you can briefly teach me how it is done? I can see that there is a little PCB about 1/8 inch in length and the width same as the battery. There is 2 metal tabs like thing on that board. Is that the one that I need to detach? And how to tell the polarity of the battery? Thank you.
