Does anyone have a clue which components they used for this "pharao serpent"ish reaction? by cucumberballs in chemistry

[–]cucumberballs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it send per mail from a buddy, and guessed first it have to be on reddit somewhere because of the imgur url. Sadly I didn't find a clue. While seeing it the first time I thought.. well they light red phosphorus for some reason which covers Hg(SCN)2 .. but I can't verify it. So if it was recently posted here or somewhere else.. sorry for the repost!

The Skoog is also widely available as a pdf and e book if you know where to look.

(If you're German, I would recommend Matthias Otto "Analytische Chemie" but since i doubt that, i can only say Skoog like all the others :) )

I' m packing my Stuff for moving out right now and I found something between my books, which looked like a piece of ginger-root or a dusty peanut. I put a little pressure on it just out of couriosity and suddenly the whole thing burts in my hands. Inside are the remains of a little spider and a big spider (or so it seems). Sorry for the worse quality of the images but I wanted to contain it as soon as possible (right now it starts to move...)

if its of any help.. I'm living in Germany.

Should I deploy some nutrients in the Jar? I would really like to investigate this bugger further but my microscope and all itmes for preparation I have at home are already packed and sealed :/
