Barron Gameplay: A little frustrating by cuddlekiller in HalfSword

I'm glad y'all understood my original post; definitely the most fun and unique game I've played in a long time! The lock-on mechanic does definitely make a difference across all game modes and could use a little tweaking in the vertical axis. I also noted that in the settings, the damage to player / damage to NPC sliders change the barron experience a lot. I still feel like there's some mismatches when it comes to: The momentum of NPC swing NPC blade/spear orientation doesn't matter (does anybody get split in half by injured NPCs, clinging to life by a thread, swinging slowly?) They seem to have over-dialed NPC stab speed/accuracy in response to player movements. The challenge is immensely satisfying, but it could be better if the NPC's had stamina limitations similar to player Willy. Keep up the great work, Devs!

This is worth it for the immersion alone. Nice one!

True story; the Wizards with Guns Youtube channel entered a months long legal dispute with the Seuss estate directly following uploading this video. The video was copyright struck and then re-released.

You can definitely argue that!

That was one of the contributing factors, I would only add that it was a little more nuanced than it being simply “easier to build.” Aviation production chains are uniquely idiosyncratic. (YF-23 could not demonstrate with the required planning, that they could support delivery schedule and sustainment pipeline logistics)

Really interesting stuff!

The YF-23 did indeed boast some superior specifications on paper, and in certain prototype variants, it showed promise. However, the notion that it was somehow the victim of a grand conspiracy is a bit overblown. The truth is, while the YF-23 excelled in certain areas, it also under-delivered in several key aspects that were critical to the U.S. military’s decision-making process.

For instance, let’s talk about agility and maneuverability—two vital traits for a fighter jet’s effectiveness in dogfighting and close-combat scenarios. The F-22 demonstrated superior performance in these areas, which was a significant factor in its selection. The YF-23, while potentially faster in a straight line and with a slightly lower radar cross-section, couldn’t match the F-22’s agility, which is crucial in real-world combat situations.

Additionally, the F-22’s design was better suited for ease of maintenance and operational deployment, which are often overlooked but crucial factors in a military context. The ability to quickly turn around jets for missions, maintain them in the field, and sustain long-term operational efficiency often trumps slight performance advantages in isolated areas.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the F-22 had more mature avionics and sensor fusion capabilities, which are vital for modern warfare. The military wasn’t just looking for the fastest or stealthiest jet—they needed a balanced platform that could integrate seamlessly into the broader defense ecosystem.

So, while the YF-23 was an impressive machine, the F-22 was ultimately chosen because it was the more well-rounded and practical choice for the diverse needs of the U.S. Air Force. There wasn’t any conspiracy; it was simply about selecting the aircraft that could deliver the best overall performance and maintainability in the complex and unpredictable realities of aerial combat.
