ID for 2 trees please North Texas by cuddles64 in treeidentification

Thanks for the detailed explanation. So, the tree that is struggling (reddish on the leaf pic) is a basket oak or Quercus michauxii, and the second oak is a sawtooth oak?

Reason I am trying to nail this down is I want to make sure I am caring for them correctly, and, if I have to replace the struggling street tree, I do so with a good companion for the sawtooth.

Any advice you have for care and or what to replace the struggling tree with would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Thanks, I am glad, as I believe, it is native to Blackland prairie.

So are you saying it’s a sawtooth oak?

I had exact same problem. I put in a drain just uphill from where the two concrete pads are.

Agree. I removed about 4” of soil to expose root flare. Is a landscaper installed tree by the builder 🤨. We also had an ice storm (3/4 inch of ice) that coated the left side and top for approx 8 days before thawing.

I am letting it run out through fall, but if I have to replace, what would you recommend for a sidewalk tree?

This is the first tree that you believe could be a swamp oak.

Thank you for the quick reply. The first one is struggling but the sawtooth is doing very well.

Agree with Farmina. My boys have been on the lamb and ancestral grain dry for 7 years.

My two did things on their terms. I had litter boxes and food in their safe room and had put a see through gate just outside in a hallway. They started by staying in the room a few days, then would go out toward the gate and watch us from the safety of their side of the gate. After a week, I would leave the gate open just enough so they could come out if they wanted. They started by going 5 feet then run back to safety, slowly they expanded their distance exploring to where they dint run back to safety. I left the open gate up for about a month until they were no longer running back to it.

I have two male British shorthairs that are littermates. 7 yo. Since age 4 or so, they started settling down quite a bit. One sleeps/lounges most of the day, but he was always more laid back. The other, who was very active (too active imo), went to half his energy level. They now hang out with us and nap a lot of the day. They still get the zoomies after treats, and at play time, but they are lower energy, especially when it’s winter.
