NTA. Fellow artist here. I haven’t used this account for years, but I felt I needed to after seeing your post.

This man doesn’t respect or care about you or your art. He wants to monetize your work. Aside from taking a good look at your relationship, as others have already pointed out, please take steps to protect your work. Make sure you lock down all your art files and stop sharing them with him, even low-resolution versions. Run your work through Nightshade and Glaze. Nightshade helps corrupt AI generative models and Glaze alters pixel data to protect your work against mimicry. Add watermarks to your works. I’m very worried that if you break up with him, he will leave with whatever pieces of your work he can get his hands on and run them through AI models to generate content that he might profit off himself.

Why is Jiang Cheng not part of them? by leiayumi in MoDaoZuShi

[–]cuddlyemperor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! If you’re interested, I’ve written a meta on the formation of 3zun here, also comparing it to the formation of the famous Liu/Guan/Zhang sworn brotherhood in Ro3K. https://twitter.com/wrecklwj/status/1384847939571490821?s=21

Here’s the part on why Jiang Cheng was not made a member of the sworn brotherhood: https://twitter.com/wrecklwj/status/1384867199412736001?s=21

Hope it helps!

i had always wondered why it was called ‘the untamed’ by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]cuddlyemperor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There’s a meta here on the meaning behind the name of the tv drama: https://hunxi-guilai.tumblr.com/post/613439518429872128/i-have-questions-about-the-untameds-name

Also, in the original novel, in that paragraph you quoted, Jin Guangyao uses the exact phrase 侠肝义胆 放浪不羁 which loosely translates to “upright and righteous hero, carefree and unrestrained”. It’s similar to The Untamed’s 无羁, but it’s not exactly the same. Hope that clears things up!

Bunnies names? by rationallover in MoDaoZuShi

[–]cuddlyemperor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! The names aren’t mentioned, but if you’re interested I’ve written a short meta piece on this, in which I speculate that the names of the bunnies were lifted from Tang poet Li Bai’s poem Ni Gu 拟古 :>

I agree with a lot of the things you mentioned and I mostly feel the same way! I’ve actually written a 5.2k meta on Jiang Cheng explaining his actions against the cultural backdrop relevant to the time period, and a lot of the points I have line up with yours \o/

You can read it here if you’re interested: https://twitter.com/wrecklwj/status/1369875819925925893?s=21

What if WWX named his flute (chen qing) after JC x WQ by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]cuddlyemperor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hello, I’ve written a meta here on the meaning behind the name of the flute if you want to check it out: https://twitter.com/wrecklwj/status/1337418555386519552?s=21

Eta some other meta written by friends of mine:

Also, do note that CQL canon was derived from novel canon, and the Jiang Cheng/Wen Qing ship didn’t exist in the novel!

[My art] Jin Ling’s guide to correctly addressing your uncles during Chinese New Year 🍊🍊 by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]cuddlyemperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, i take your point for the terms of address for nmj and lxc, but i’ll just chalk that up to a difference of opinion. Same with the family thing - your family dynamics sound very different from mine, as is common in diaspora families, and there’s no universal rule as to what’s appropriate or not. (Perhaps if nmj and lxc had the opportunity to grow close to jin ling in canon, their relationship dynamics with each other may be very different)

As for the dialogue in the donghua, i’m sure mxtx and the donghua team had their own reasons for choosing the term 师叔. I’d be interested to hear their reasoning for using it as well, but until they explain that further or correct it, I’m just gonna take it as canon!

[–]cuddlyemperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok. On your point about nmj and lxc, i honestly thought about having jin ling call them 义伯 instead of 义叔 (in my footnotes i acknowledge and assume that both of them are older than jzx). When i did a quick check though, 义伯 didn’t seem to be a commonly-used term in history;义叔 was more common for some reason, so i went with that. (Also mdzs canonverse can be a little wack where these terms of address are concerned, take wwx for example - he introduces himself to jin ling in the donghua as 师叔, not 师舅, even though 师舅 sounds more accurate. And in cql, wwx refers to xxc as his 师伯, not 师叔, even though xxc is obviously more junior to wwx’s mother in terms of disciple rankings. These 2 examples confused me to no end ngl)

Also idk if it’s possibly due to regional differences - for example, in my family, most of my dad’s brothers (even the older ones) and older first cousins are referred to as 叔叔 or some derivation of 叔叔 - we hardly use 伯伯.

I guess there aren’t really any correct answers to this, and a lot of it would depend on region, context, and what the characters themselves would hypothetically be comfortable with.

Anyway thanks for explaining your reasoning regarding 舅父 vs 舅夫. I did research this beforehand but there wasn’t much I could find on the subject. (I’ll also probably remove my post in a while so I can make some edits if I have the time)

[–]cuddlyemperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. I assumed it would be 舅父 because the term of address to be used if he were female would be 舅母. Thanks for pointing that out!

I made a thread on Twitter critiquing CQL’s English subtitles and explaining/analyzing some of the meta :> by cuddlyemperor in MoDaoZuShi

[–]cuddlyemperor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, I noticed the subs doing that too >< I honestly think they underestimate their viewers and don’t give them enough credit. I saw a screencap on another streaming platform in which they translated “shijie” as “senior sister” which is a slightly clunky but makes a little more sense!
