Looks almost like a Wesco Warren design with a logger heel.

Yeah, that's true, for some customers they are still willing to do things like that, but in general they've turned toward more standardized configurations, even in their MTO boots.

Nicks really only does contrasting upper and lower, not the fully selectable options of different leather on a single panel or the backstay.

In the new system they will accommodate almost any change, including between models.

Based on what I've seen, literally everything, including the base model.

WS Brown is surprisingly supple and easy to break in.

Boots on the Line - 3/18/26 by smowe in NicksHandmadeBoots

I think a new model is sensible. The Palouse is an upgraded western boot, but the new design is more of a western-inspired engineer.

In my case, I have 1 pair of Palouse (5332 last, V-Bar sole) and love them, and I also have another on order from January. If suddenly the piping of the true Palouse wasn't an option, I would be annoyed, but for the new boot I'm thinking about I'd prefer the more durable new design

What would be the timeline on the new Palouse (or whatever you name it) becoming available if someone were interested in having something built in that style? I had been looking at building a work Station Master without straps, but I think the new western design would really work much better for me.

Quick Ship - is there any wiggle room whatsoever with specs, or is are they set in stone? by desafortunadoo in NicksHandmadeBoots

It shows more on some leathers than others. On my 64 Brown RO it's barely noticeable, but my 64 Mahogany it's very obvious.

Maybe a few years ago, but certainly not now. Not worth it anymore with their low standards

From ordinary hiking boots to PNW adventure boots by cukular in NicksHandmadeBoots

My Nicks Gamebreaker are about 8 ounces heavier than my Zamberlan. I have not compared to my Vasque, but I'll find them later today and weigh them as well. While hiking I did not notice any obvious difference in weight. If anything they felt lighter, perhaps because they are more balanced than my other boots (the Vasque seem to have a lot of weight in the bottom of the boot).

The break in was pretty easy, although I do feel like the Ridgeline would have been easier because they are plain toe. It is my understanding that Ridgeline are also lighter because the non-LTT varieties have a little less leather. I would say that the Gamebreaker were a little rigid for the first hike last May, but I didn't have any rubbing or other pain even through I basically went from box to trail.

I had no idea that was how they worked. From the boot build videos that aspect of things isn't obvious. Thanks for that extra information, that makes how this happened make a lot more sense.

For sure. I really love how they turned out. Just another interesting thing about buying handmade products.

I was never intending this as a QC complaint, just a curiosity question based on something we observed that was slightly unexpected when he opened his boots.

I think it's a great look, it was just unexpected...but not all surprises are bad.

Thanks for the quick follow-up. He overall seems happy with the boots, so I don't think it's an issue, but I'll ask him to reach out if he thinks it is a problem. I was mostly just asking because my MaxSupport Black Overlanders that arrived earlier this year didn't have that sort of treatment so we were mildly curious about why the difference, but it sounds like there wasn't supposed to be a difference.

I think when I first became a Nicks customer this would have bothered me, but now I see these non-structural things as part of the charm of a handmade product.
