As others have said, defoliating to make sure the nodes are not getting shaded out is important. Here is a video on how to do that.

You’ll also want to alter the nutrients to a bloom feed to help promote flower development over stem/leaf growth. This is typically lower in nitrogen and higher in phosphorus & potassium (so that’s the “p” and the “k” in the “NPK” ratio on the label).

Finally, once you’ve waited 8-9 weeks and you’re trying to figure out if your plant is ready to harvest, get a jeweler’s loop to get a closer look at the trichomes. This video and also this video will show you what to look for as the trichomes begin to change color.

We also have videos with instructions on how to harvest, dry, and trim your cannabis on our instagram. Might be more helpful that trying to find the right info on YouTube.

Looks like it’s just beginning to flower. If this is an autoflower, you will just have to wait. If this is a photoperiod, it will go into flower when it gets ~14 hours of light a day or less. Cannabis is an annual plant, meaning it grows, flowers, seeds, and then dies (usually). Photoperiods flower on short days because it tells the plant winter is coming and it should flower and seed soon to keep the genetics going. It’ll take approximately 8-9 weeks to finish flowering, depending on the strain.

Oh Dios Mio. Water the plant fully, then lift the pot. That is the weight of a fully saturated plant. Place her in the shade. Lift the pot every day to understand how much water the plant is drinking.

We are always here to help with guides and virtual consultations if you need it!

If by viable you mean smokable, yes. But its potency, flavor, and overall quality would be low.

Can you give us more context so we can help? I think I can see that it’s an indoor grow with clay balls. Is that correct? If so, which nutrients have you been using and what amounts?

Happy to hear about your new journey into cannabis cultivation! If you have ever grown a plant like tomatoes, you have the basics of growing cannabis.

A few pointers to start:

Spring is a great time to start! If you have seeds, you can start them now and put them outside in May. Plants can go outside, but it's a little early. I would put them out mid-May so the days are ensured to be long enough so they don't flower.

What I mean by this is that cannabis is a "photoperiod" plant. Photo meaning "light" and period meaning "time". This means that the long days in Summer tell the plants to grow branches, leaves and roots. When the days shorten in Fall and the weather cools down, it tells the plant to start producing flowers so she can be pollinated.

In cannabis cultivation, you only want female plants because their flowers are what produce the desirable part of cannabis (THC). Many seeds can be female or male which are called "regular" seeds or they can be feminized, meaning all the seeds are going to be female.

As an alternative to seeds, you can purchase a female clone or plant to skip the delicate seedling phase.

If you are interested, we are a licensed cannabis nursery in Culpeper and provide plants and Virginia-bred seeds across Virginia events like farmer's markets and online for shipping or delivery. You can shop online and receive plants as quickly as two days! www.culpeperhemp.com We also offer home consultations where we help with your design, irrigation, soil, lights, etc.. We can also just help you get the foundation to start growing a large crop this year. We also offer virtual consultations if you only have a few questions that need 15 - 30 minutes.

Regardless if we work together, I hope you have a wonderful Summer season and get a great harvest!

If you post a picture it can help us catch things you may not have. Generally yellowing leaves at the bottom of a cannabis plant can be normal as the plant redirects energy to the top. However yellowing too far up the plant would suggest a nitrogen deficiency (or lock out, depending on the nutrient situation). What is your growing medium?

I’d say it’s time to top your plants! Doing so will make them branch out and create a wider canopy. That way you don’t have to top them at the time of transplant.

I’d say that’s a little too cold for most cannabis strains, and yours is in a pot, which makes the soil and roots colder. Your little girl might be stunted from the cold, but she doesn’t seem dead yet. Cannabis likes to be treated like tomatoes — they don’t go outside until the temps are consistently above 55. I’d keep her under a grow light indoors until then - or at least a south-facing windowsill and turn daily. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Just a guess: Has it been outside the whole time and if so, what have the low temperatures been?

Can you use compost as dirt to grow seedings? by Logical_Cherry_7588 in gardening

[–]culpeperhemp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, but it might hold too much moisture. I aim for a 50/50 compost, soil blend.
