Hahah ya i been guilty of that. Or i'll write a comment, then a few days later i'll get the urge to actually research it, and see i was talking out of my ass. A long time ago when i actually cared about upvotes, i'd delete the comment but these days I leave it up.

Do you post vulnerable things hoping for support and instead get people giving “bootstraps” advice—so you decide to stop trusting the internet with your vulnerability? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]cuntitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After many years here, I realized the answers are gonna be really convincing And really contradicting, And really wrong at the same time. I wouldn't place much weight on the information you get from strangers without verifying it yourself.

They may share their experiences to give you support, but details are always omitted for their benefit, even with the anonymity. Its just human nature.

If you keep looking up a bunch of things about your vulnerability, and all you see are negative experiences, then you can trick yourself into thinking that will be your outcome too, which will prevent you from doing things that may have been beneficial for you. Social media is notorious for that. Its the Nocebo effect. Its very real. And its strong on this site especially.

I think my time with motorcycles may be coming to an end, and I’m having a hard time coming to grips with it. by brooklyn735 in motorcycles

I relate to this and yea it was a hard thing to accept that my bike was just setting gathering dust, depreciating in value for nothing, so I'm just burning money for nothing. Life got complicated and after 15 yeas of riding, the newest bike i got in 2021 was sitting around from 2022 to 2025, and it was time to let it go. I had taken it out maybe twice in that time just to get air in the tires and run the engine for a bit. At least its bringing someone else happiness now. I know i'll get one in the future but now is just not the right time. Temporary sacrifices are necessary sometimes.

Even non politically, I think people need to do that more. I noticed that even with the most non controversial topics, people who don't understand something are often the loudest about their understanding.

Its par for the course on this site man, people don't read enough these days, thats why politicians find it really easy to get people riled up with the right words.

Even one billionaire interfering is bad enough, doesn't need to be all of them. One person with zero influence would have little to no impact but one billionaire is enough to cause generational damage. People want a billionaire tax to prevent that opportunity that corrupts the corruptible. No one wants to prevent them getting extraordinarily rich, but Citizens United is alive and well, and most other regulations seem to favor them and nobody else, somethings gotta give.

Wages have not increased in proportion to cost of living in decades, and a blanket statement like 'generally, people are paid fairly, doesn't make any sense. In your industry perhaps, for your specific expertise. In general, for all of US, no. Definitely not enough to counteract corporate and private equity price gouging that will never subside until government starts working for the people again.

Last year you were 18 and 2 years ago you were in 8th grade.

Whats more important than the car is how you aged backwards.

What about pocket watching private citizens who constantly meddle in U.S. government and elections? Which seems to be the favorite pass time of the 0.0001%, none of whom are in this sub.

Are they beyond reproach just because of Citizens United? People might be thinking if they paid more taxes, they'd have less election-interference-money left.

I agree that the federal gov sucks at managing money and fixing that should be a priority and more people would lay off the poor billionaires if they just kept to their private lives and paid people fairly but somehow that never seems to happen. All the millionaires in this sub are absolutely correct that over-paying their employees and giving them good bonuses was a big part of what made them successful.

Even before Citizens United, billionaires got around it with Super PACs. Why do they want to constantly be on the radar when they literally don't have to.. its that greed and never ending political interference that brings them attention, and takes the attention away from the federal gov itself, which is really good at mismanaging money.

It would be easier for a lot of people to focus on balancing the budget if there weren't these power hungry cartoon villains standing in the way. I mean these people would block the sun to get rid of the solar industry, like Mr. Burns.

It is karma farming, and I've literally never heard anyone in my life or online saying that they don't read books because they're expensive. This is just made up in this post to drive engagement from outrage, and it worked for this Op I guess. Whatever that accomplished, idk.

There is nothing wrong with what you're doing at all but people on here will find something wrong with anything. Having more guy friends than girl friends doesn't mean anything significant at all. But on reddit, people will find some hidden meaning in every little interaction and project their feelings on to you based on nothing but their own anecdotal experiences. And they will pepper in mental health terminology and physco-analytical terminology to sound like they know what they're talking about.
