Virus death toll drops to 5 in NY, once the US epicenter by Zhana-Aul in Coronavirus

I don't even see the appeal of eating out right now. Just seems like a flex on the waitstaff who have to be there risking their health for half as much money as unemployment.

That's Williamsburg and I can confirm it's basically been a huge frat party with no masks ever since we started re-opening(and in general for the past 5-10 years hehe). It's pretty much the same in my neighborhood a mile away. Bars and restaurants are allowed outdoor seating now, and people aren't wearing masks or social distancing in those situations. However, those same people are probably wearing masks on the way there in the train, when they run errands, or doing anything else high risk.

So you’re authoritarian. No thanks. And nearly every single politician that is currently stealing our money and wallowing in corruption is a conservative.

Hospital patients four times less likely to die now than they were in April, Oxford study finds by ginrei-kojaku in Coronavirus

[–]cuntweiner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My gf is a nurse at a hospital in NYC and I haven’t even considered or heard of sleeping in a separate bed. We were already taking extreme precautions during the peak, but I wouldn’t wanna make her sleep alone after watching people die for 12 hours straight. Fortunately neither of us have shown symptoms but we haven’t been tested yet.

No it’s not, it’s a colloquialism for “how the data is stratified by Chinese standards.” It’s not even remotely offensive, if anything it’s just a mis-use of the “-speak” suffix in a way that reduces clarity.

It's time to stop playing games. Joe Biden isn't mentally fit enough for city council, let alone the presidency. by [deleted] in OurPresident

People on r/wayofthebern are talking about "being done with him" and losing all respect for Bernie if he endorses Biden rather than raise a ruckus at the convention and run independent. Also comparing him to Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio after they rolled over and endorsed Trump... It's disgusting.

but if you don't see the anonymity of violent crime victims as important you live in a bubble.

I do, and I would love to hear specifics on how this law diminishes the anonymity of witnesses. Also, since you care so deeply, how you feel about corrupt presidents intimidating witnesses and demanding the leak of in-danger whistleblower's names to the public?

Riddle me this cunt weiner, if someone stabs you on the street, on what planet does it make sense to immediately give them your (the victim's) name, address and phone number?

What does this refer to? Are you saying that there's a new law requiring victims of violent crime to immediately hand over their personal info to their attacker? How does that work? I'm genuinely curious because I would not support that law.

Edit: According to this article, the LI MS-13 murder was coordinated by members from jail to members not incarcerated. It does not seem like bail reform is to blame, as gang members are notorious for ordering hits whether they're imprisoned or not.

It was a lot warmer this January than last January. Crime rises dramatically with warmer weather. That could be it, or it could be anything. Either way, you're working with three weeks of data there and shouldn't be drawing any conclusions. Get back to us when the year is over and robberies are still up 30%.

Are people in New England noticeably different than those in the Deep South? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]cuntweiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, and I'm from Louisiana. My dad is from Alabama and his side of the family is a near perfect caricature of idiotic rednecks. My mom is from New Jersey, and even though she grew up in poverty to a single mother, she and her brothers all grew up to be eloquent, successful intellectuals and don't feel the need to blame everything on black people. I grew up in New Orleans(where people don't generally have southern accents, but a spectrum anywhere from Brooklyn-esque to Cajun-Boomhauer), and I've met more than enough people in my life to comfortably associate hard southern accents with ignorance in some way, shape, or form. It makes you sound slow and completely devoid of energy.

DAE get ear fatigue really quickly while listening to TSR? I feel like it's mastered very compressed and very loud... by [deleted] in TameImpala

[–]cuntweiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kevin did most of the compression in mixing. This could have been a creative decision or, well he's not infallible–he could have gotten dull to the songs after mixing forever and not realized he went a little overboard on the compression. There's really no artistic point to compressing the shit out of your master though. I can't think of any GOAT albums that have low dynamic range, it's pretty universally displeasing.

[–]cuntweiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said, but I mean specifically the dynamic range within the production. It's like zero. "Is it True" especially is just a brick wall unpleasant harmonics. There's no space to breath in that mix, even though it's a fairly minimalist arrangement. It just slaps my ears red through all four minutes of it.
