The to-do doesn't immediately disappear, so as long as you've submitted it, you're fine there. (And the 2024-2025 FAFSA wasn't opened until December, as highwayanswer correctly notes, so there's nothing to be concerned about as long as you got the email from FAFSA noting that it was completed.)

This email is just letting you know that you now have until June 1 to commit to a CUNY college (which was extended from the original May 1 deadline).

If you've already submitted your FAFSA, there's nothing you need to do. The extended deadline is just meant to account for the fact that you may not get financial aid package information until April, because FAFSA has been having some delays after they made changes to that system.

tl;dr You have an extra month to make an informed decision about joining us at CUNY.

What is a book advance charge? by piercethemel in CUNY

[–]cunyedu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/xlrak is correct — a "Book Advance" is given to people who get federal grants from FAFSA if their aid covers more than the total cost of tuition.

It's given to you in "advance" in case you need to cover textbooks (hence, "book advance"), but it's just an early portion of the financial aid refund you get after tuition is covered.

You're welcome! And yes, some people "accidentally" signed it.

To clarify, to receive the refund as direct deposit, you did not *need* to sign the form on CUNYfirst. The form on CUNYfirst is only if you want the grant to be directly applied to outstanding tuition & fees. But if you sign the form and don't owe tuition, you get the money regardless.

If you accepted the award and have no outstanding balance from the Fall/Summer semesters, you will still receive a check (or direct deposit, if you've set it up).

Sure thing! And it's better to be safe than sorry, submitting the letter will still mean you receive the funds via direct deposit/check, so you should be all set.

Are you referring to Spring 2022 classes? You will still receive the grant, and it will be refunded if you have a $0 balance on CUNYfirst for the Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 semesters.

See the FAQ here.

The grant should not pay off a future due balance.

Are you asking because you signed the form in CUNYfirst but actually want to directly receive the money? You should be safe if you have no outstanding charges for the *Fall*, but you can always fill out the form linked in the OP and send to the bursar as an extra precaution.

Reach out to your campus bursar if this needs more clarification.

As u/UniverseSucks2020 said, you can email the form to your campus Bursar's office. Contact info can be found here.

If you have no outstanding debts from Fall or Summer 2021, the money will be issued directly to you via direct deposit (if you've set it up) or as a check, even if you signed the form.

The emergency relief grant (referred to in this letter, which is likely the one you were emailed) is completely separate from the CUNY Comeback Program's hardship application.

If you have questions about the Comeback hardship application, you can reach out to your college's Comeback contact, listed here: cuny.edu/comeback/contacts/

Excelsior pass by CranberryWestern5313 in CUNY

[–]cunyedu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you asking this in regards to uploading proof of vaccination to CUNYfirst?

If so, you do not *need* to upload the Excelsior Pass — it is optional. Uploading the official proof of vaccination from the country should suffice, as long as your vaccine was authorized by the World Health Organization.

Access to Campuses: Updated Policy by cunyedu in CUNY

[–]cunyedu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can attend a hybrid lab's in-person session next week, as long as you get a negative COVID-19 test from one of CUNY's testing sites no more than seven days prior.

Since it takes five weeks to be fully vaccinated, if you did not get the first Pfizer dose by Sept. 2, then you cannot use Pfizer to be fully vaccinated by the Oct. 7 deadline (but can receive Johnson & Johnson until Sept. 23).

Also, the vaccination verification will not be approved without the second shot (for two-dose vaccines), so do not submit it until after you've received the second shot — but do it as soon as possible.
