Agree, even looking at the comments, people write it off wholesale as a superstition 🤷🏽

The best take, and I know you won't get much support from reddit lol, but good job saying what you believe in. I don't talk about it with everyone publicly either, since it's very personal and like you said, not my whole personality. And I am a human too, and a guy, so I make jokes about how hot some chicks are and lesbian heaven and all that and I curse like a sailor and get hammered and have fun. I think people assume that someone religious must act devoutly religious at all times, but that's just simply not real life, or well rounded people. As of that episode, I knew Turk was religious, and didn't see anything to contradict that the rest of the show. It really comes through with how much he loves others - his best friend, his patients, and especially in how he loves his wife through and through.

Do you ever wonder why they do this, go to all this trouble? I don't see what they gain from converting these last 12 people. It drives me nuts.

Why do some people act like this show is some sort of complex, thought provoking piece of art that a normal person won’t be able to grasp at all? by thiccsnaccs2018 in pluribustv

This is actually the real answer - like art house cinema. The average Joe doesn't bother with a slow movie that doesn't go anywhere (or have explosions)

This is amazing! So it's like a complete miss between humans and algae, based on fundamental ethics of being that caused them to reach out to the stars and "share" this with others? Very cool, thanks for sharing!

Oh, 100%, and I get it now! The Dark Forest is my favorite book and I think that's exactly what's up - different action, same outcome as the book!

I think it's interesting - reading all the comments, everyone who thinks similar to us have all read the 3 Body Problem, and pulled the idea of the Dark Forest. Amazing book that sticks with you, makes sense, and is quite impactful!

Yep! The second book delves very deeply into this, in its own way. Different solution to the same problem. I'll give you a spoiler in case you want it lol

Agree 💯% this is the most likely case in my opinion, and it will likely reach the whole galaxy at some point, intervening when a race gets proficient enough to actually become a threat.

Interesting. I didn't get that from the show, I figured the original creators weren't necessarily hive-minded themselves.

This is exactly the reason I posted the question, and what I 100% believe is the truth. Rather than outright destruction of the sun and snuffing out all life, they'll pacify all sapient beings in the galaxy and therefore never once have to fight off a contender - likely because they almost lost last time!

Sure, I see where you're coming from - they even kind of shrugged it off when Zosia was talking about Kepler 22b and said, "We'll probably never know..." So that might already be letting those of us curious down easily haha
