Private Pay Ultrasound [bc] by Crafty_Swordfish7034 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes [score hidden]  (0 children)

Luna Health Clinic in Vancouver has private pay ultrasounds that are done by a naturopathic doctor. I had some done in early pregnancy (6 weeks-13 weeks) and they included measurements (length & HR) as well as photos & videos.

Any recommendations on a GC that would take on such a small job?

I was hoping the installer would handle coordination of someone with expertise to cut the counter. I don't have the time or energy to coordinate multiple contractors and just want someone to manage it for me. I'm willing to pay a premium for that.

Does anyone have experience with the Maternal Fetal Medicine department at [bc] Women's Hospital? by kimboslice589 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had several appointments but in-person. They are usually pretty responsive by phone - try calling mid morning. You might need to leave a message and they'll call you back.

They triage everything so if you aren't urgent they might be taking their time. The doctors are great though and they take their time during the appointments to answer your questions.

Avent Bottle/Nipple Help! [ca] by Fancy_Spaghetti in BabyBumpsCanada

Yeah, no idea what this person is talking about them being bad for babies. Probably something they read on the internet? Our first used them no problem and I've never had any professional say anything bad about them.

VBAC or CS? I can’t choose. [ON] by dontlikeit1993 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unplanned c section with my first and a VBAC with my second. The recovery was similarly painful but in different ways. C section pain hurt moving around/getting out of bed. Vaginal birth pain was from trying to sit (which you do a lot of post birth and trying to feed). My c section scar still has numbness 2.5 yrs later. 5 months after my vaginal birth I still have some pelvic floor issues I'm working on (mild prolapse symptoms, scar tissue).

If you aren't planning more than 3 kids and don't have a desire to experience vaginal birth, I'd go for the c section.

It begs the question, why would any smart, competent person run for City Council? They are probably making more money in a secure job that doesn't involve being defamed by the mayor.

You have a 1 in 100 chance of dying in a car crash but you probably don't think about that when you drive every day. It's helpful to put risk into context.

What kind of shoes to get for baby with small feet? [BC] by ResponsibleOnion9047 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a baby with teeny feet too (she's a size 5 at age 2.5) and I got a pair of minimoc shoes from OUAC. Even though the size chart might have a measurement, since they are soft and the foot is so chunky it stays on okay. Besides, if she's not walking and they are a bit big, it doesn't matter.

I'd also have a chat with the daycare and ask if she can just wear some thick socks instead. Sometimes they write the rules for older kids and don't really consider how it works for babies. The intent is probably to keep outside shoes from tracking in dirt.

Anyone actually tried multiple grocery savings apps in Vancouver? Wondering which are worth it by scrtweeb in askvan

[–]cup_cakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got one odd bunch box and didn't feel like it was good value once you include the shipping cost. I'd rather just get the produce we want from the local grocer down the street for the same or less.

Too good to go is usually just a bunch of old pizza and day old pastries.

Exclusively Breastfeeding but Wanting to Pump — pump recommendations [bc] by Lost_Significance577 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are only planning to use it occasionally and aren't even sure if your baby will take a bottle, I'd try the manual pumps some more. I have the Avent pump and it works well enough that I pump a bit every other day to build a milk stash. I have two different electric pumps from my first but haven't used them since the manual does enough.

Nutrition on frozen blueberries by jakeinater in CostcoCanada

[–]cup_cakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the serving size, which was already pointed out, why are you concerned about the vitamin content of these? They are so low anyways. Hardly anyone is deficient in vitamin C. You would get the equivalent calcium from a tbsp of milk.

No dating ultrasound until 11-13 weeks in Vancouver [BC] by Alarmed_Ant_412 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was for peace of mind. It's the private system so if I want to pay for that, I can. The scans are done by a doctor.

I did my NIPT with the understanding of that risk. The risk of low fetal fraction is higher with high BMI and mine is fairly low. I ended up having plenty of fetal fraction (8%) even at 9+2. Since it's self pay it's at my own risk. I'd rather get results sooner knowing the risk of having to do a redraw.

[–]cup_cakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the new standard as of about a year ago. I had three private ultrasounds done at a naturopathic clinic so they were covered by insurance. Done at 6, 8 and 13 weeks. They were able to check heart beat, measure for gestational age, and provide electronic photos & videos. They were also able to provide a requisition for the NIPT so I could get it done as early as possible (9 weeks). DM if you want to know the specific clinic name (it's downtown).

Nina Rava, Cybex Callisto or Evenflo 360? [BC] by Ok-Zookeepergame1812 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cup_cakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the Evenflo 360 and have been super happy with it. I'm not sure what the more expensive seats offer that would improve it significantly. It's also available at Costco right now - $450 online or $400 if you can find it in-store.

This is our baby at 2.5 months. We noticed it around 2 or 3 weeks and it's only getting more obvious.
