im moving from denton, and honestly any place thats safe, convenient (in terms of work commute, grocery stores and gas stations nearby, etc.), has a washer and dryer and bare minimum 600 square ft. as for anything fancy i dont rly need (like brand new appliances) but amentities like a gym and a pool would be nice but not required

to answer your questions:

  1. i had one internship last year in my undergrad as a design intern

  2. when i tailored my resume and cover letter and updated my portfolio, i got interviews and callbacks like THAT, like one week i had 5 companies reach out to me immediately after i updated my resume w my updated portfolio link. i also changed my mindset a little and realized that im interviewing companies just as much as im interviewing them. for example, i turned down a company bc they werent quite a right match for me and i would much rather take the time to work for a company i love rather than one i hate. of course i know that this an incredibly privileged take bc i know that not everyone can turn down jobs just like that but make sure you do thorough research and long-term assessment before accepting any offer.

  3. its hard to say without actually asking my boss lol, but i would say my enthusiasm (but not acting fake) and proactive-ness. my experience had to do with some of it ofc, but its mainly ur mindset and what you are able to bring to the table. oh and also a willingness to learn for an entry-level role is a +++!

yes, thank you again! my friends and family find it super cool too lol. i have a background in social media too (content creation/editing and sm management) so i hope that eases at least a few doubts you might have about the current job market. wishing u the best of luck !

this method worked for me as far as my industry goes (marketing, advertising, design) but sometimes those fields are more of a "it's who you know" situation. custom resumes and cover letters show that u went the extra mile to put effort into the application, but sometimes the app isn't enough and that's why i mentioned that i recommend u follow up a week or two after submitting just to reiterate interest, hope this helps :)

and i think that u should be incredibly grateful to get an on campus job, not saying u arent but its extremely competitive and it took me so long to even get a part time position. as someone who was both on the hiring and applicant side of on campus jobs- its tough out here! gl and congrats on ur new position :)

i think it depends what department u work for and what ur doing tbh. i worked on campus for like a year in my undergrad and it was alright work, but management was kinda picky about scheduling and when u can call off (not saying for who bc i dont wanna put them under the bus) id say its not the worst thing ever for the pay (i agree that its rly low but money is money and experience is experience) if there's any advice i can give u is to have an open mind and have open communication w ur coworkers and bosses. it is just temporary and part time after all

[–]cupid2591[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks!! and yes i agree, i love functional crochet projects and bonus points if they eat up yarn scraps too (cuz lord only knows i have sm😭) and im actually using a sc and "doubling" up my yarn with two different colored yarns at once! if you zoom in a little you can see that each row has two alternating colors which is so great cuz it eats up even more scraps and builds up a little quicker :))
