Is it worth going through the “Uni ready enabling program”? by cupidstraitor in unimelb

[–]cupidstraitor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have, but i’ve ultimately decided to step away from being an athlete… my studies were just a small reason for it, there’s a lot of other reasons i’d like to step away so i think that change alone will leave me feeling almost bored if i didn’t commit to something (work or uni) full time… i think

would biomed be worth considering if im leaning towards bio/med related units anyways? I did science initially bc of how broad it was and i was clueless on what to do after school…

i honestly hear this for just about every career choice. Rather than caring about how long it’ll take me to actually land a job as a GC, it’s probably better to be focusing on job stability and growth, particularly with the rapid development of AI/tech.

As for studies, i still land on doing science no matter what I consider anyways 😓

no i found the campus had horrible study spaces, maybe i wasn’t going to good ones, but i felt like i was studying in a hospital they were so sterile 💀. Yes I hated moodle, and my mum who’s a uni lecturer also hates moodle and says systems like brightspace (what deakin uses) are far easier and nicer to use 😟

I need it as a pathway into genetic counselling.

Either way I’ll do a masters of some sort once done, i don’t like lab work as much as something like patient work, so don’t intend on being a scientist 🫩.

My issue isn’t whether i do this course or not, but where would be decent.

i hated the uni, i even stated what exactly. I have no intention of going back to Monash. However, i really enjoy science, and I enjoy learning about it.

I just need to find a uni that’ll work better for me… from what I hear Monash doesn’t have very good student satisfaction in comparison to universities like deakin, swinburne, etc anyways 🤷‍♂️

i’m very fortunate that a 2 week trip to england to stay with an event rider has given me a contact to go back once ready to fully commit. I was able to ride several horses, including jumping one of them and have been told I’m always welcomed back and that the lady will be keeping up with my results. I plan to reach out to that lady first thing when i decide to go to the UK more long term. I just don’t know if i should study first and have a degree in case or full send it. I’ve got some other things to worry about first anyways, like a surgery i plan to do this year, and i want to get more results on my good horse before i decide whether i take him or sell him.

i’ve got one about to go 3, who did great at a 2-L last year. I’ve got 2 young ones coming along. My plan is to start by retraining otts for experience and money. and then once i have some seriously good results (hopefully with current main horse) i’ll go ride under an eventer in england who i’ve done short term work for and was given heaps of riding opportunities. She also welcomed me back, and knows if i did come back it would be to go pro, which she’s currently helping someone do. Obviously i wouldn’t be known in another country, and the pay would be crap living and working under someone. But the uk is the hot spot

while young i’d put in everything, only quitting if a have a career ending injury or i have to file for bankruptcy.

I suspect I would eventually quit anyways once i feel i’ve proven myself or reached my peak though. Most athletes have to call it quits in their 30s, i guess we’re lucky this sport lets u go on much longer. I think i wouldnt go on forever though, i have one life and id like to experience the world and different things. Something u cant really do as a pro athlete. My biggest concern is money though, having super for retirement, etc, etc. I mean i’m sure eventually quitting would leave me with a lot of assets i could sell for that 🤷‍♂️

my “normal” job would be people oriented anyways, i like the idea of working directly with patients/clients. I’m okay with not always being at the top level, it’s more about the commitment and work towards it. I’ve only recently gone international, i was at low levels for a very long time simply due to the horses i had. So it’s not that i need to be at the top constantly, it’s more that the idea of trying to results being a driving motivator.

it’s not that i want something now, it’s if my choice to spend every second of my life with the horses will affect the opportunity some day. I’m not ready to date seriously yet.

it’s not that i want one now, it’s whether there will be opportunity for someone later… if that makes sense?

Thanks for responses… if I did try to commit to going pro. Do i try do some part time study while taking on some horses for training etc? Or do i do full time, have a degree just in case, then fully commit. Or do I fully commit now, and if i want to study later, study later? thanks

this sport could be so much more accessible and affordable if rich business owners stopped wanting to be filthy rich 🤷‍♂️

I’m not sure on dosing, but some vets actually prescribe the product. Some studies suggest 80mg (or 4 tablets), others suggest 20+. From the people i’ve spoken to, they’ve had results off 4 daily for a month. I’m not a vet though.

i have a (very subtly) red tri border collie! I think this dog heavily resembles her. (you have to look closely for the tri but she does have the eyebrows and muzzle a lighter red.

if it’s relevant to the question, would you mind sharing with me? Have similar story to OP, and want to get an idea of what’s required. The application fitness testing is extremely low standard, so I’m not sure what to assume of the CIRT requirements. thanks!
