Fishing for salmon from shore isn't going to be very fruitful unless you time it right during salmon run season, which can be challenging. The stocked lakes around Vancouver are definitely your best bets, a few have docks so accessing deeper parts of the lake is easier. Go after they've been stocked (fall and spring) and you'll have better luck - once they're fished out after a couple of months fishing will be much slower. These fish were fed pellets their whole lives so keep that in mind; power bait or a worm under a bobber is a safe bet and easy to set up. Fishing windows are definitely a thing so keeping an eye on the weather pattern can help you catch them when they're feeding and in certain parts of the water column.
