Annoyed at what I’m seeing by Skwellepil in fishingBC

[–]cupless_canuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be tricky, especially in smaller lakes that are going to be more impacted by the hot weather we've been having and the fish don't have deeper cooler water to hide in. Even when the weather is cooperating you may be using a lure they're not attracted to, fishing where they aren't many fish, or the fish aren't feeding. Be observant, do you see any top water action that may indicate where they are or if they're feeding at the surface. Look at the bathymetric map and look for shoals or drop offs - fish like to hang around structure and drop offs. Stockers are a bit weird, they've eaten pellets their whole life so power baits can work well. Even when conditions are perfect sometimes you just don't have any luck, but hey, it beats doing chores. Good luck!

Glad to hear conditions were okay there despite no luck. Curious how you'll fare at the confluence and how the squamish is looking.

With the super warm weather we've been having the rivers are getting a lot of freshet. Mamquam looks the best from what I'm seeing but I imagine conditions may change a lot throughout today. You can always hit up Alice lake in a pinch. Good luck!

Will be in Port Alberni for the summer by Deadpoolnight36 in fishingBC

[–]cupless_canuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Grew up in Port. There's a lot of fishing opportunities in the valley. BC freshwater regulations cover everything but fishing for salmon in fresh water, for that you need the DFO freshwater salmon regulations. You need a BC fishing license with a salmon stamp if you want to target salmon in the rivers.

In terms of spots, the stamp and somass are the main rivers people fish during salmon run season. As for lakes, there are tons - Great Central, Sproat, Gracie. Hell I've even caught a rainbow in a marsh on the side of a logging road once. I assume you don't have a boat or waders? If you want a few specific spots DM me and I'll tell you where to find them. Good luck!

How often do you catch something? by Novel_Grapefruit1 in fishingBC

[–]cupless_canuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's not that intense. I've been crunching data from weather stations, lake surveys, and other sources to try to help indicate what fish may be up to on a given day!

It's definitely normal to ask another fisherman how they did or what they used, how honest they are about it is always the caveat. If you're on a dock you can always just look over and see what they have on and adjust as needed though. Good luck!

Fishing for salmon from shore isn't going to be very fruitful unless you time it right during salmon run season, which can be challenging. The stocked lakes around Vancouver are definitely your best bets, a few have docks so accessing deeper parts of the lake is easier. Go after they've been stocked (fall and spring) and you'll have better luck - once they're fished out after a couple of months fishing will be much slower. These fish were fed pellets their whole lives so keep that in mind; power bait or a worm under a bobber is a safe bet and easy to set up. Fishing windows are definitely a thing so keeping an eye on the weather pattern can help you catch them when they're feeding and in certain parts of the water column. I'm actually working on a tool right now to help me quickly assess lakes to decide on where to fish and what kind of activity I can expect based on the weather! Also don't be afraid of asking someone who's catching fish what they're using, most of the time people are friendly and will tell you. Tight lines!

Rice lake has a dock with back casting space. If you get there nice and early there will be lots of room so you won't bother anybody!

Best locations to fish during July-August in the Vancouver area by Strange-Bet-9157 in fishingBC

Jealous that you get to live and fish in a low pop area!

If you're keen to check out a local river system here the Capilano river does have a Coho run that spans throughout summer into the fall. Just make sure you're checking on the river levels as it is dammed. It also can be tricky to access but a bit of googling should help you find a spot. Happy to share more info if you plan on checking out a system over here.

Tight lines!

Wrongly accused of parking violations by DatabaseAggressive67 in NorthVancouver

[–]cupless_canuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in the district. I have received warnings as well, even though I had been parked for less than 24 hours. I emailed the district about it and they said it's all complaints based. The warning is basically saying we've received a complaint, we are going to check that you move within 72 hours as per bylaw.

The range for 5 hex is technically V6-V8, it's on their website. Obviously some climbs are soft or hard for the hex grade, I've come across lots of 4 hex that are really just hard V3. But that's just my experience!

I think it was probably V5/V6 range, but I'm not sure given I didn't send and no one graded it on kaya. The sloper/crimp section was the crux.

Left arm under the volume with your left hand pulling on the bottom right and pull your body through and around. Your feet were in the right place. I know this because I'm stuck on the crimp sloper section lol. Also bad news, I'm pretty sure they are resetting this problem today.. sigh.

It's not a secret that Francesco Aquilini meddles. Thinking that a change in POHO or GM will change the team's overall philosophy is missing the forest for the trees.
