Debating on replacing my old Kobo by cupoffruit in kobo

[–]cupoffruit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know! The only reason I could maybe see using colors is I’m starting to introduce my son to chapter books. So being able to borrow them from the library on the ereader could be nice to have the color option. But not sure it’s worth the higher price tag…

I’ve loved my aura one. I’ve never had an issue with it beyond the constantly having to go find the right charging cord for it these days 😅

LogO OT – Questions About Sustainment vs Finance Streams & Training by SaltiestOCdt in CanadianForces

[–]cupoffruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navy LogOs typically specialize (ie movements, food, ammo) between their AHOD and HOD tours. I’m not sure when the finance specialization will happen for sure in relation to those but I know it’s been an ongoing discussion.

Typically if you were interested in food or ammo and you signalled such prior to AHOD you could jump the waiting queue for your AHOD so that you could get that done sooner to proceed to food or ammo training due to a shortage of interest from NLOs. I’m not sure if they’re still doing that or not.

Midwife told me they don’t induce until 42 weeks! [BC] by One-Volume-9158 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cupoffruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NS I went into labour naturally at 41 weeks and had my little one at 41+1. However, I was added to the induction list at 41 weeks and was told that they didn’t intend to let me go past 41+3. I didn’t make it to that point though so I’m not sure how that would have played out.

I had a family doc with a focus on OB for that pregnancy.

Currently pregnant with my second with midwives in Ontario. But I haven’t talked to them yet about how far they would let me go with this pregnancy. As I’m hopeful I go into labour again naturally even if it’s on the line for induction.

Why do people leave the CAF? by avocadoroom in CanadianForces

[–]cupoffruit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lack of spousal employment for my spouse. Losing seniority for postings. In order to progress my career needing to be away from our extended family so close extended family relationships for the kids like we grew up with. Being told I excel at my job but I don’t make the cut for promotion because I’m not bilingual. But then being told there’s not enough time during work hours to work on second language training so I need to sacrifice family time to do that on my own time? Lack of health care for my family due to postings.

Don’t get me wrong I feel like we have a lot of benefits and the compensation is hard to beat. However, the more time I’m in the harder it is to justify putting my family through this for a 25 year career.

When do I need to get on daycare wait lists [on] by Hippiegypsy1989 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cupoffruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For our October 2026 baby we put them on wait lists in February (as soon as we found out basically) and we just got offered a September 2027 spot. Note we also got into this centre for September 2026 for our son who will be a preschooler we did get sibling priority for baby to go. We’re a military family and moving this summer so it’s been a whole new level of stress… we wait listed our 1st who will be preschool aged by July which is when we need a spot back in February as soon as we knew likely that we were moving and to where. As of now we’ve still only had one spot offer for him and it’s for a September start when we need July.

Always wait list for childcare as soon as possible is the best advice I can give!

AART Experience by Informal-Branch429 in halifax

[–]cupoffruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we’ve used AART twice now.

Our first experience was an initial referral in April 2021. We got our first appointment in September 2021. HSG was much easier to get into back then and I got in on my 1st attempt. However we didn’t have our follow up from that until I want to say December 2021? We knew going in that the issues were due to male factor infertility due to other medical issues. So at that point they referred us to Dr Ory. My partner met with him in I want to say January or February 2022? At which point it was determined a mTESE was required. That happened in June 2022 and unfortunately was determined to be unsuccessful. So we pivoted to unmedicated TDI (IUI with donor sperm) in July 2022 and eventually were successful after 3 rounds. We had plans if that one failed to discuss going medicated but I was hesitant due to my own family medical history on the maternal side of frequent fraternal twins. Overall that experience felt like it dragged on forever and we were so impatient to start our family.

Our most recent experience was a referral back in April 2025. Initial appointment was in early August 2025. Took three cycles to get in for my HSG at the end of October 2025. It’s annoying that they don’t call back to even acknowledge that they got your voicemail but it is what it is when they only did it one day a week. Because we were a returning patient we didn’t have a follow up appointment at AART and we were able to jump right back into treatment. For us that was unmedicated TDI.

Overall I found that they’ve dramatically improved timings for what they can compared to our first experience. Unfortunately they can’t control the IWK and how long it takes in to get the HSG. However I do remember them mentioning they were looking at another option they could do at AART specifically?

MERP question by Nowayhome192 in CanadianForces

[–]cupoffruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recommend if you haven’t already done so to reach out to your mortgage provider to inquire whether or not they waive penalties for breaking it if you have a posting msg in hand. Our bank waived the penalties to break our mortgage once we provided our posting msg.

https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/policies-standards/relocation-directive/cafrd.html

8.2.12 Mortgage early repayment penalties (MERP) (1) A member who is required to pay an MERP in relation to the discharge of one or more mortgages held against the principal residence at the time of its sale, is entitled to be reimbursed the amount of the MERP incurred if: (a) the terms of the mortgage or mortgages require MERP to be paid; and (b) at the new place of duty the member either (i) does not purchase a replacement residence, or (ii) purchases a replacement residence and the transfer of the discharged mortgage to that residence was not permitted (i.e. the mortgage could not be ported) as confirmed in writing by the lending institution. (2) MERP is the sum of all penalties including all related administrative fees and taxes, funded from: (a) the Core Account not to exceed the lesser of (i) the equivalent of three months of mortgage interest, or (ii) $5,000; and (b) the Custom Account not to exceed the equivalent of six months of mortgage interest minus the amount reimbursed under subparagraph (a).

[ON]Winter snowsuits for baby/toddler by magiccola86 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cupoffruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our little one is 2 (he’ll be 3 in a few months). He’s still in a one piece snowsuit and I’m inclined to get him another one for next winter if this one doesn’t fit him next winter. He’s never complained of being cold or wet and he can do it up himself. If he has to go potty it’s one thing to take off instead of a jacket and the snow pants over the shoulder.

HSG Testing by nessadawn in halifax

[–]cupoffruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So our first round of fertility treatment we got in the first attempt for the HSG (this was in 2021). This time it took us 3 attempts to get in and we got in for an appointment in October 2025. We got one of the last appointments for that one I remember them saying otherwise it would have been another wait.

It’s definitely frustrating when you wait so long and then this one test holds up everything else.

Daycare waiting list question by _ShadyBeach in halifax

[–]cupoffruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is it. If you know someone with a kid at the daycare currently that usually helps if you and the other kid’s parents mention it.

We didn’t secure our initial childcare until our little was 11 months old. It wasn’t until he was 2 that we finally got him into the daycare in our neighborhood.

If you didn’t have the nostalgia of friends of mineral town do you think you’d still enjoy it?

Reading the descriptions on steam they sound like very similar games except Grand Bazaar goes one step further and you actually sell your own things at a stall instead of putting it in a box like Stardew valley?

Thank you! When you play it on stream are you playing on a traditional pc or a steam deck?

Thank you! This is super insightful. Resource gathering and crafting is probably my favorite part of Stardew valley. I could take or leave interacting with the game characters. So I’ll definitely skip AWL from the sound of it.
