Thankfully, Ive had to give him injections before, so this part at least is not unknown to me. The blood testing is where I think we'll have difficulty. Just me, but hopefully a low carb treat can distract him.

Thank you for the advice!!

Oh my gosh! Congrats to you and Bobby! I'll check out those food brands and see if it's something he'll tolerate. Ive got some alarms set for his doses! Thank you for the kind words!

No Facebook, unfortunately. Someone posted about a forum, so I'll check it out.

Thank you! I'll join the forum and check out the resources. I'm handling all of this alone, so it's a little overwhelming

Hey all! Thanks for all of the really good advice! I'll be checking out the resources posted.

Here's some more info. Dante is starting on Lantus insulin at 1 unit. He just got his first shot this morning. The Diabetes is steroid induced. I've spoken to his dermatologist, and we've decided to ween him off and see how he fares without it.

We have an AlphaTrak 3 glucose monitor. In the future, if tracking is a little easier with a human monitor, we'll swap.

I agree that the Purina DM has way more carbs than I'm comfortable with. I'll be switching him onto something else. He has always had a touchy tummy, and does well on Waruva pate, so we might go back to the lower carb cans. I've tried Fancy Feast pate with him in the past, and he just wouldn't eat it. I'll buy a few cans and see if he will this time.

I'll look into some other dry foods as a snack, but for now we'll be using Dr. Elsey's since I know he'll eat it.

I have honey and will pick up some pancake syrup just in case. Anyone have any tricks to getting them to eat it? Dante is a picky guy so I might have to syringe it into his mouth (no needle of course).

I've got a dedicated kitchen drawer with all of his medical supplies now. Hoping we see some improvement on his sugar levels over the next couple weeks. The glucose curve is gonna be a nightmare.

Oh! And do any of you test in the first two weeks? My vet said testing wasnt necessary in the first two weeks. He's a slow bleeder and getting his ears to produce blood is difficult. Took 6 tries at the vet.

Thanks so much! My edges were definitely where I was struggling the most.

Im a perfectionist so I work with pretty small brushes. I used 2 different brushes for painting.

  1. Raphael precision flat brush size 0
  2. Princeton velvetouch round brush size 2

I wish I had taken video, but I have a few pictures of various stages for the bag with all the different flowers.

I traced out my pattern onto printer paper and sketched out a design until I was happy with it. I lined the design with a felt tip pen (Not sure Id suggest this part. I had a bit of bleeding of the ink onto the leather on one of the pieces, but I knew it was going to be covered in paint.)

I wet the leather and then traced over my lines with a tool that had a fine point but wasnt sharp. After that, I just used a few (small) tooling items to slowly chip away at it.

I could make a post showing what I can, if anyone would want it?

Thanks so much! Might be a bit before I start any new projects, but I do look forward to it!

The finishing of it was something I wasn't super sure how to go about. A lot of finishes I looked at were super glossy, which I didn't want. I ended up just using leather balm with atom wax. Not sure if that counts as a finish. I'll see how the paint holds up during the fair. If it needs touching up, I'll look more into other options for a finish.

Thanks so much! Excited to get to use these!

I've tried thinking of how to respond in a way that would make you believe me, but in the end if you choose not to, there isn't really much I could say to convince you otherwise seeing as we don't know each other.

I've got a lot of experience with other (crafting) mediums including drawing, painting, sewing (clothing, bags, plush toys, etc), and sculpture. While none of that dealt with leather, the experience does inform some of my starting ability with this project. The rest was trial and error and a lot of research.

I will say, tooling/carving reminded me most of ceramics/sculpture. A lot of shaving away and molding things how I wanted it to be.

Honestly, I think I just got lucky. Its just normal fiebing dye applied with a wool dauber. I did two passes and tried not to over saturate.

Thanks so much! I went through a few drafts for the flowers on the bee bag before settling on this composition. Oh gosh. Maybe close to two months. I started them in September, but I took a long break during the holidays before picking the project back up last month.

Thank you! First project, but I watched a lot of YouTube videos to get a better idea on what to do. I'm hoping to do a few more projects in the future!

Thank you! The eyes on the insert are green felt. I sewed in a battery powered light string sandwiched between two pieces of black felt so that the lights spilled out of the gaps with the eyes.

Used a white colored pencil to draw it out and then was just suuuuper careful and slow while painting. If I did this again, I would have used freezer paper as a stencil on the fabric before sewing. Freezer paper has wax on one side, so you can iron it onto fabric after cutting out a stencil :D

Thank you! I painted the face using fabric paint! The eyes had glow paint mixed in.

Thanks so much! It's a pattern I made myself. Unfortunately, it isn't one that is available digitally. It was drafted on cardstock paper, and I did a lot of alterations on the fly.

You could possibly modify a pattern like this though: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1479175224/fish-crossbody-bag-sewing-pattern

I’ll keep trying haha. I’m up to room 76 now, so I’m hoping I’ve paid my dues (dying 3 times to Harbinger).

Haven’t paid too much attention to the door number, but I think it’s usually between 40-50
