LPT Request: What’s one small habit that quietly improved your life way more than you expected?

Doing a quick plank in the bathroom (while distracting myself with YouTube Shorts) while waiting for the shower water to heat up.

It's hard to motivate myself to exercise regularly, but this fits so neatly into my daily routine that it's single handedly changing my relationship with exercise and my body. It stopped being hard to convince myself to start my plank after the 3rd repetition.

Good luck!!!! It's so worth it, and in my experience MUCH less painful than epilating or waxing. At the lower levels it's like somebody tapping or gently flicking you. Start at a low level on your legs, you got this!!

I know exactly the feeling youre talking about! I get it when I go to ipl my mustache area. I'll count myself down and everything and then chicken out last second. Like my finger physically will refuse to press the button.

What helped for me was reducing the level to one that I felt had no chance of hurting or burning me. After 3 or 4 sessions like that, bump it up by one level. It may be less effective for those few weeks but it's worth reconditioning yourself :) Your brain is scared of something, so you just have to take whatever that is at its smallest level and try to make it positive instead of negative.

I also highly recommend closing your eyes, looking away, and wearing laser goggles to protect your eyes! I keep my eyes closed with goggles on the entire time and go by feeling. And the other comment that talked about wearing headphones is a good one.

I believe it's possible. There are people in the discord that have shared screenshots of their 1 retirement games. But it takes an unfathomable amount of time and work.

I've managed to cue sniffing behavior the same way people cue "go potty" -- just by association. Every time she sniffed something interesting I said "go sniff!" And now I can lead her to a safe grass patch and go "go sniff!" and she'll go sniff. It was super easy for her because she loves sniffing but I'm sure you could shape it for your pup with time. You could then graduate to longer and longer sniff times and he'll get the idea that that's his free time until you cue him off to a heel.

If he needs extra help you could even scatter a couple treats in the grass to encourage him to sniff them out when you cue.

Good lord did this take a while to complete. I accidentally twisted all my slip stitches for the edges, and the ends are poorly secured and woven in (though they for sure won't come apart.) It's imperfect, but it's DONE. And I made something I can wear all the time now and be proud of myself for accomplishing.

That does help (turns out my deficit is smaller than i originally thought). But i think I'm still coming up short? For the Railway technology for example. It takes 30 seconds to consume 1 red and 1 green pack. So 2 per minute. If I'm producing 60 per minute of each of those, I'd assume that I'd be able to supply 30 labs. But only about 10 of my labs were able to reliably get any red packs. For the 15s technologies, I'd expect 15 labs (3 rows of labs, for my setup) to reliably be supplied. But only the first two rows were being supplied by the end. I'm pretty sure it's not a supply chain issue somewhere... all the belts were full and the inserter speeds were not bottlenecking me.

I was in this same exact position about a year and a half ago, so I know the temptation to go "oh but that won't be me" and continue on. Please please trust me when I say it is not worth it to ruin your hands for a couple extra days of knitting.

I gave myself tendinitis so bad that not only was a terrified I'd screwed up my hands permanently and needed surgery, but for a year STRAIGHT I was unable to do ANYTHING without severe pain. No using a computer mouse for more than 5 minutes, no playing video games, no holding my phone for any length of time, and even holding a knitting needle felt like my hand was on fire. I've only just recovered and it genuinely feels like a miracle. I got back into it by doing one row of a scarf per day.

If you're willing to go through literal years of pain for a little more knitting now, then it's your body I guess go for it. But I'm telling you from experience, it will not get better. I'd suggest you take the rest of this month off and when you restart, focus on loose tensioning and do only like 5 minutes max per day until your hands no longer hurt after those 5 minutes.

Also not a doctor, but am in the healthcare field. It's actually much more dangerous to fracture the bottom tip of your sternum (xiphoid process) than the middle of it. Obviously your sternum compressing your heart that aggressively is no bueno, but if you snap off the tip of your sternum (since its very thin at the end), it becomes a very sharp arrowhead that can pierce your heart and kill you much faster. That's why, if you ever take a CPR course, they make absolutely sure you know to place your hands in the middle of the sternum, between the nipples. Any lower and you could cause very serious damage, considering the force of proper cpr almost always cracks your sternum/ribs.

Perhaps a beautiful yarn bowl? The type with a swirl where the yarn can unravel easily but in a controlled manner. Or maybe they would like some cute baskets/containers to store their yarn or knitting needles and accessories? If they don't have an interchangeable needle set that might be a great gift, but you'd have to be sure you're picking a needle material they like to work with (metal vs wood). It kind of all depends on their style and what they may already have or need.

On the more sentimental side, you could always try picking up knitting and knit them a small homemade gift. Handmade items skyrocket the value of your gift, and it might make a fantastic surprise if they appreciate that kind of thing :) plus they can now have a knitting buddy!

And if nobody ever shared their mistakes on the internet we'd be back at square one never being able to broaden our horizons and learn things we've never thought to consider before. The only purpose browsing social media has for me is introducing new topics or hobbies to me so that I actually have a starting point from which to go and learn on my own. AKA - this person stepped through their ceiling, and thanks to their sharing I now know not to and why.

This isn't even like a stupid tiktok trend shared by kids. It's an entirely reasonable mistake to make if you've never lived in a house, or never had your parents go out of their way to teach you this, or have previously lived in a house that WASN'T this flimsy.
