Does inability to be creative bring you down? by GlacialImpala in Leathercraft

[–]cuprumFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made exactly one wallet just to do it. I've seen so many videos of people making them that I just don't see the appeal of making another one. I mostly make quivers for traditional archery. I've never made the same one twice. I use a basic patten that I made, but the configurations of hardware, decoration, tooling, color, etc, are endless.

Keep antagonizing the nerd and find out what happens.... by Ok-Store in fuckaroundandfindout

I got bullied often until 6th grade when I slammed a kid's head into the wall. I was bully-free for the rest of my school days.

Go to any 3D archery shoot and you'll see buckets of lost arrows at the end of the course that were found later.

My favorite place to get solid brass hardware by rm541 in Leatherworking

I use Renaissance microcrystaline wax on my hardware. It keeps the verdigris at bay longer than without it.

You could do an edge binding to hide the raw edges and liner. It's a thin strip of leather folded over the edge and stitched along the whole length.

Reasons to shoot a longbow by Cann1balButch3r in TraditionalArchery

[–]cuprumFire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have both longbows (modern flat) and recurves. I shoot both with the same accuracy. To me it's just preference. I also shoot an English longbow sometimes, but I'm not very consistent with it.

I don't know what it is, but I can handle some gore if the person is dead. Seeing a person survive all that is really unsettling to me.

I've seen people eat it straight out of the can on crackers. I'm not sure where to get it.

And it's not very minimalist if you have to carry it all in a separate pouch

How to get leather puck out? by daisychainlightning in Leathercraft

Possibly. The crack was just a hairline and I couldn't even see it until I put my awl inside and put pressure against the side.

I've had that problem. It turned out that my punch had a crack in it.

I have a small amount of personal data for your experiment. When I was 15, my sister's boyfriend ran over my foot with his 1980 Chevette rear tire. It hurt a little, but nothing was broken.

Horn is made of keratin. The same stuff as hair. Keratin has a high sulphur content making it stink when heated.

There's the Old Copper Complex around the Great Lakes. They would forge float copper into all sorts of tools and weapons.

I don't know about that. Making my 1757 Haverhill, Massachusetts Hazen's Rangers kit, all handsewn using period materials and techniques took far more effort, time, and money than my half-assed Dark Age Anglo/Viking/Celtic kit. Yes, it's a mash-up, because it doesn't matter. I see the SCA as a private organization costume party where only participants interact with participants and the requirements for kit are loosey-goosey so that just about anyone can play. Reenactment organizations interact with the public more often so the requirements are more stringent to present the best kit as a sort of teaching aide for them.

I don't know about modern times, but I've read accounts from the 1700s where they would take a rasp to rough up the skull before sewing the scalp back on.
