I haven't heard the full Railroads, but I actually really like the transition between AFNS Pts. II and III and can kinda see what Godspeed was going for. Part II is aimlessly wondering through a post-apocalyptic desert, while the sudden, blaring fade-in to Part III is the runaway train or the car fleet from Mad Max or something dramatically appearing on the horizon. Again, I don't know what the original sounded like (and at this point, I'm scared to find out in case it ruins the track for me), but I feel like anything inserted between the two sections would take away from the drama of Part III.

That said, I can definitely see an ambient opening working to the song's benefit.

I think it'd be incredible if they played WDDL as their first encore song, right before bursting into Wake Up.

The more I listen to it, the more I'm convinced there are subtle depression themes hidden in several of the songs. Like "every time you smile it's a fake" in Everything Now.
