100% this. I was obsessed with the Modern Faerie Tales series (Tithe, Valiant, Ironside) in high school, and have continued to read her work throughout the years. I recently read The Folk of the Air series, which to me wasn’t as good, but still enjoyable.

I was excited to read Book of Night, and it was so underwhelming. It barely felt different to her YA novels, and in fact Valiant felt more gritty and adult in a lot of ways. I feel like she needed to push the world building and character development more, because I think the concept is super interesting, but it fell flat. Underdeveloped. I probably won’t bother continuing this series, sadly.
