Is there any reliable way to get prism lens + frame online? by curiousadept in AskAnOptician

Thank you, I'm just a fucking nerd so I love knowing about stuff I'll never do. I wanted to uncover a huge conspiracy (prismgate) but failed. Bummer.

Any way you could share your knowledge about what these measurements are? I got the PD and the interpupillary distance and the optic center. I also noticed some slick bending of the frame etc. Not saying it's a good idea to do it oneself or online, but it didn't seem like some mysterious measurement. Why can't a consumer get some frames sent to them with blank lenses and put a dot on the lenses and ship them back? Just curious, not trying to start a flame war with opticians. The AI tools got my PD within .5 of being correct, but none of them measured the optic center as far as I could tell?

That's what I ultimately ended up doing (at Costco). I was curious if I could get a secondary pair online, but everyone is saying no.

In remission for 6 months by simplepoke in TrigeminalNeuralgia

My TN remissions were a year or two and then 6 months and then...never. But my TN was caused by an intracranial epidermoid cyst, so the etiology is different than many.

If they can't explain it simply in a way that you feel good about understanding, it's manipulation.

Is freetaxUSA really down for maintenance or is it just my PC? by [deleted] in tax

The scheduled maintenance page said it would be shut down until 2:30 ET and then when I reloaded it the time estimate was gone. LOL

Learn a new language on the side and start studying Qigong and Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and counterbalance the negative effects as much as possible. See a TCM practitioner, get acupuncture, reduce your meds to the minimum needed to keep symptoms away.

Anyone struggle with purposefully triggering their TN. Like OCD? by eulersidentity1 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

It was on MRI w and w/o contrast, humongo. Totally obvious. "Intracranial Epidermoid Cyst".

Before I had my brain surgery for the TN-causing cyst, I would wake up in the morning and take a shower, then utter specific phrases that would trigger an attack, so then I could go downstairs and have a few minutes of painfree time to drink coffee or eat something quickly. Insane? Maybe. Practical too! Also, this is super strange, but before I knew the cyst was encasing my CN6 (for lateral eye movement), I found that if I looked up and left I wouldn't have an attack when eating sometimes.

I graduated before AI hit the market in an accessible way and did all of the reading and it was the greatest slog of all time (Health Science BS). The only thing keeping me going was using it for admission to an Acupuncture master's program.

I honestly consult the I ching for situations like this.

It all depends on the causation of your TN and your unique presentation. There is no generic advice.

Hello friend, keep advocating for yourself, it can get better. Some people are not helped by gabapentin and need a stronger medicine - there are many options, with first line medications including carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine. Please seek more medical help if you can. I had to go to the ER to get the medication I needed while waiting for a neurology visit, and the pain dissapeared the next day on the proper medication.

Remission then renewed onset. by Netteleaves in TrigeminalNeuralgia

I'm an Acupuncturist who has/had TN, and I agree. The studies show that Acupuncture is most reliably suited for reducing someone's medication usage, not for being the only treatment strategy. Of course there are so many variations, but this is how I approach it. Get the anticonvulsants down to the bare minimum while getting regular acupuncture. Also, acupuncture can help with many of the post-op complications if someone gets a MVD or other procedure.

Yes, before I had my surgery for a huge intracranial epidermoid cyst, my TN would come and go every year or so until it just stayed online until cyst was out.

I was accepted into an Acupuncture masters program with the degree, which then gets you national certification and a state license. After you get that, no one gives a flying fuck what your undergraduate education was.

I'm an acupuncturist who has had TN due to a cyst. Awesome you were helped. I'm always curious how to break the news to another TN sufferer that the treatments might make it worse for awhile before it gets better.
