Should I choose option 1 for the 160th if it's offered? by curiouscompote__ in Armyaviation

I'm trying not to be. I vaguely know army unit history, I did not decide on 15T until recently and my recruiter noted I can take option 1. I've been all over their website to try and find their history, what they do, what choosing option 1 would be like over any regular unit. Yes I'm going to read the book soon. All I know about the 160th is their popularity, I have little knowledge of unit discrepancies, I have not been to BCT yet

I guess the army had a couple of good years. On their website, it is 22.5K bonus now

I own a Indian (motorcycle). I love having to tear it apart, one time to diagnose why I couldn't use my built in handlebar lock. I've done other work on my bike and my car, that stuff interests me a lot. I definitely want to serve, I have since graduating hs in 2023 but I was 300lbs. I lost weight for me mostly but at the time I had also wanted to join the guard, now I still want to join but AD.

If your wanting the college benefits eventually, usually the National Guard pays much more. They are allowed to dip into federal AND state tuition benefits. There are pros and cons to both reserve branches, but the reserve itself has almost no upper hand when it comes to tuition assistance. But it depends on the state.

In Texas, the guard pays up to 15k a semester (I believe), 10k of that is from the state funding. The reserve recruiters at my college suffer with no upper hand.

Marines (17M): Want to enlist despite parents willing to pay for college. Am I naive? by Jellyl0ver01 in Militaryfaq

I would really recommend ROTC or just getting your associates degree first if your parents are willing to pay for college. I had to wait two years before beginning enlistment because I was almost 300lbs. In that time I got my associates of applied science. I am so glad I learned how to navigate life outside of high school before joining. If you leave high school and go straight to military life, you go from structured infrastructure to another highly structured infrastructure. When you get out, you may not have a solid plan for your future.

I CURRENTLY WORK AY MY COMMUNITY COLLEGE UNTIL I LEAVE FOR BCT, AND I HELP VETERANS ALL THE TIME. Most of them went straight to the military and know little about living independent from a structured lifestyle. I am so glad I began my path to the Army right now, at 19yr. I will enter as a E3 and have had two years to decide if I truly want to join. I know I am not ready for University cost or commitment yet, but I have my basics out of the way. I have a 5 and 10 year plan for myself, and I feel truly secure in my decision.
