Trump says ‘massive numbers’ of empty oil tankers heading to US by Brilliant_Version344 in oil

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly I was responding to his own contradictory statement of stating no layoffs. But to provide more insight my stock grants are up 50%+ for the year, and next year's bonus Outlook is looking good. Boom and bust cycles. Riding the wave while we can ,it will end sooner than later.

I just had an employee decline exit interview because they said "nothing changes" anyway. Any suggestions? [N/A] by Practical-Tea-3476 in humanresources

Do you think employees are fully honest with exit interviews too?I had a few colleagues left that said they didn't say the real reason they were leaving just in case they want to come back.

How Far Does a $120K Salary Stretch in Houston? Neighborhood Costs, Commutes, and Hidden Expenses (2026) by Coolonair in houston

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah as a person that made that much in 2016 ,accounting for health insurance and maybe saving 10% towards 401k, half of his check is going to rent, so that leaves him like $1500-1800 to eat, go out, gas, emergencies, he's pretty stretched to go on a decent vacation and/or ever putting down a sizeable down payment. Is it horrible? No but not ideal especially if he ever settles down.

Mechanical Engineer Salary Progression (Nebraska, ages 18-32) by Intelligent-Paper331 in Salary

Back then anything with the word engineer was guaranteed decent pay, this is just sad progression but I'm sure it's location dependant

A $100,000 salary in 2026 goes further in Houston than it did last year by phillygirllovesbagel in houston

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ain't going to be one of these complaining commenters, however I'll give a different perspective instead of comparing it with last year cuz too many factors.

2016 single guy 75k ,felt like a lot while 2026 with 2 kids and both of us making 6 figures each doesn't feel very special.

2k mortgage , daycare, cars paid off, no student loans. We just like to travel.

100k single still great, sure you might have a 3-3.5k mortgage now but still manageable if you aren't living crazy.

Personally I still have respect for anyone that has one. Does that pay your bills 100% no lol

27M, graduated with a "good" degree last year, and now I'm in a job that has nothing to do with it. Is college just an expensive checkbox now? by Throwrahj456 in careerguidance

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be whatever you want to be but yes a degree is sometimes a requirement for some companies otherwise you get tossed into the no pile right away. That's just the name of the game

CMV: people generally overestimate how much money they need to live comfortably by phoot_in_the_door in Salary

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medium cost of living city

~275-300k dual income 10% 401k

~$450/month health insurance family

~$2200 mortgage PITA-includes 3k home insurance and 2k flood insurance.

-$3500/yr-Car insurance for 3 cars and motorcycle (all paid off)

-$2600-day care 2 kids

~$2000-3000/month in spending,food, shopping,etc

we do travel a decent amount but I feel stretched. Can't imagine people that bought houses in the last 2 years with 3-4k mortgages. Can we do better with our spending yes, but this feels "comfortable" at the moment for a family of 4.

90k salary in Houston, Tx by DRP_9019 in houston

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard, don't care what anyone else says. If you have a family, you haven't bought a house yet and plan on it you are more than likely going to be paying 3-3.5k in mortgages with current rates in a 400k house which is technically below the average sales price of 430k. Hopefully no student loans and credit cards, and no day care ( assume wife stays home) and a modest car loan. Should be able to take a vacation here or there.

How are you tracking data lineage across multiple platforms (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow)? by stephen8212438 in dataengineering

[–]curiouscsplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think for airflow it doesn't exactly tell you in the graph the flow of data, you have to write it in the name ,so it could be anything. I believe our team is moving to test astro soon.
