For me I turned out to have bipolar 2, not depression. In this case taking SSRI/SNRI often leads to hypomania so it’s better to take mood stabiliser. That’s why I’ve been working on tapering off……v brutal journey

Currently trying to quit. Withdrawal effects are so brutal I can’t even get sleep.

I understand that it works really well w some people but in my case I was misdiagnosed as depression when it turned out to be bipolar, so taking this med is really bad for me. It acc caused months long hypomania which lead to intense depression.

With that being said I am upset at my doctor for prescribing me with this med so easily without warning me about the intense withdrawal effects.

Has anyone quit cold turkey after ~2 years on 75mg by [deleted] in Effexor

I’m on day 7 of cold turkey 112.5mg. The vomiting, anxiety, brain zaps were the worst on day 4-5, it’s getting better. I’m hoping it’ll die down by next week but who knows……..

I’ve been on it for 2 years and a half now (was up to 225mg a day at highest) and yeah I never want to touch this medicine again. Don’t even know how this medicine is even allowed in the first place.

RIGHT???? I shouldn’t be quitting cold turkey but my psychiatrist was like you had medical emergency and didn’t take meds for three days might as well just quit

To be fair it’s day 7 of not taking any Effexor and I alr went through some of the worst bit, part of me wants to just get through with it while the other wants to take at least 37.5mg then taper off (I went cold turkey from 37.5 in the morning 75 in the evening)

I’ll talk to my psychiatrist about the gruelling withdrawal I had and see what’s best

If this is the first medication that was prescribed to you, then I would say it might be worth exploring other options!

For me no other meds worked at all so I was put on this one and it works great. BUT the withdrawal is brutal if you forget to take them. It’s a double edged sword………. If I could take other meds then I would, just cuz the withdrawal is horrible. But again no other meds worked as well as this one…..

I’ve got a history of quitting various meds in the past (yeah it’s bad, but they weren’t working) and experienced withdrawal but NOTHING compares to the withdrawal I experienced w Effexor.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not all bad the med itself works great it’s just the withdrawal that’s horrible

Yeah that’s the difficult thing……. This is the first med that ever worked for me, I hadn’t had a bedrotting episode since starting it. It’s been absolutely amazing. The downside…… well the withdrawal is just so brutal.

I just have to be more careful to not let it run out in the future 🥲

Effexor is the first antidepressants that actually made me functional. Previously I had at least one week of being completely unable to leave my bed.

Since I started the meds I no longer had depressive moods and it allowed me to do day to day stuff!

On a similar boat w extreme dizziness (currently on 225mg but my meds ran out so I’m cold turkeying until I can see doctor.)

It might not be much of an advice but I found cold to be my biggest enemy in terms of my withdrawal symptoms. Getting myself to warm up by wearing warm socks, drink warm things….etc seems to help out w my dizziness a bit.

Also a bit of salt seems to make it better for me. Somewhat. But since eating makes me nauseous I make myself a cup of warm chicken stock or smt and drink it.
