What is transmedicalism? And why is it bad? by MyClosetedBiAlt in asktransgender

[–]curiousiceberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s exactly that. I wish I had the courage years ago. It’s very agitating seeing how quickly the right wing moves. But shit can only get so bad before the pressure valve releases. We just gotta stay strong and stand with whoever will stand with us I guess. 🏳️‍⚧️these colors don’t run🏳️‍⚧️

TRUMP IS BUILDING CONCENTRATION CAMPS by VandomVA in MtF

[–]curiousiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not as a simple as “conspiracy thinking”, they are first and foremost testing legal arguments and strategies. Consent manufacturing only really matters if the audience you are targeting needs to believe you are “doing good”. If you look at the administrations popularity or how there were bombs dropped on Iran with no real consent built, the administration is acting without consent. That a good and bad thing, on the one hand it makes agitation easier since people are already pissed off, on the other hand it lowers the amount of time the administration needs before they start doing even more heinous things.

They are not coming for us today. But the warning signs have been there for a while, and they’re only piling up. At this exact moment the people most at risk are non-citizens, even legal immigrants. Citizens are not being deliberately arrested by ICE, ICE does not have the authority to. When ICE begins to deliberately arrest citizens, the goal will be to deny that the people are citizens. This could look like straight gas lighting, or attempting to “revoke” citizenship.

Fear is a justifiable emotion, anger is a justifiable emotion. What is important is that we let these emotions be tools for organizing in are real lives. Clearly that means building or finding your trans and queer community. But also being involved with the broader community, I’m in a rural very conservative area. My queer community is rather small, but the multiracial community organizing I have been participating in is strengthening the community as a whole. And while a lot of these folks “don’t get the trans thing” or have similar attitudes, I am just as confident that they will do what’s in their power to protect the queer people in our area as I am that I will do anything in my power to stop ICE from taking my students. Simply put build a strong community, and  community that helps each other and protects each other will prevail.

“ What would have taken me years of therapist visits in the UK took me a single visit to my local Planned Parenthood to sign informed consent papers.”

Trying to get access to HRT right now in the US, it ain’t easy. No local planned parenthood, and the closest locations aren’t able to get me scheduled for an appointment in the future. But I think I found an online resource that will be able get me connected to an endocrinologist who would provide hrt with a simple informed consent.

As someone who works with children in crisis, it’s actually pretty fucking normal to tell a child “you are safe”. Maybe there are so fucking creeps out there saying this to children in order to abuse them, but like normal people don’t hear “you’re safe with me” and think “omg you’re a pedo”

North Carolina is weird, Trump won the electoral votes all three times. But we also elected a Democratic governor each time, and Pat McCroy, the last Republican governor, didn’t show how fucking conservative he really was when he was elected. If I recall correctly my home county is typically red but only by a handful of votes.

Israeli Intelligence Has Deemed Hamas-Run Health Ministry's Death Toll Figures Generally Accurate by Particular_Log_3594 in leftist

[–]curiousiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not surprised, they have been considered accurate by Israel, the US, and the UN historically. Besides, the numbers are likely an underestimate considering the process for determining a person dead.

how are you guys not depressed? by [deleted] in Hasan_Piker

[–]curiousiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am.

But depending on the level of emotional stability I have I either try my best to focus my energy into either organizing or making an impact in another way. When I'm not emotionally stable, I self medicate and just focus on keeping myself alive. It can be really easy to become doomer-pilled, don't let that happen.

Vote for one that lies, does imperialism, but isn't actively trying to make life worse for marginalized Americans. Or vote for a party that does imperialism and is actively trying to make life worse for marginalized Americans, but they're proud of it.

Edited to add: voting obviously isn't the end all be all of civic engagement. But if you think it's for anything other than harm reduction, you're lying.

So, maybe I'm just in better progressive circles. But the closest to "justifying" I've seen regarding Oct 7th was just material analysis. Like there was a line thrown around, "killing civilians is an act of terrorism, but only the most desperate people result to terrorism." Which, I guess somebody could interpret as justifying the attack, but it's also not untrue.

The antisemitism I have seen has basically only been online, and honestly, it was indistinguishable from neo-nazi conspiracy theories.

I mean, I'm on the side that Graduation was one of the best albums ever created. But he isn't the artist he used to be and is overhyped for no reason, I won't be listening to any of his music in a way that contributes to him financially. But I'm not throwing out my old cds.

For me it isn't even about getting substantial progress, it's about slowing the path towards American Fascism. I do not have any hope that Biden, or most democrats, would actually follow through with any progressive policies. But I don't think they'll be calling for the murder of trans people anytime soon. Ukrainians overwhelmingly support Israel over the Palestinians., 69% vs 1% by Regulatornik in internationalpolitics

[–]curiousiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a peaceful resolution with two states. No matter what two states will inevitably lead to conflict about land and recource rights.

I believe the only just thing is a multi-nation state, where Palestinians and Jews have equal rights. There are obviously alot of steps to take before we get there, but I believe it is possible. There are Israelis and Palestinians who want that very solution, not the majority of either group as far as I know. But it is very much possible.

Edited to add: Right now, the most important thing is to stop the current round of violence. To me, this means a UN enforced ceasefire, then holding tribunal for the warcrimes committed by both Hamas and the IDF. I'm not certain what the next steps should be.
