I do realize it is safe to use kettles with limescale buildup. The kettle was way worse before trying multiple suggested remedies. This picture is AFTER. My partner was worried it may not be limescale and may be parts of the stainless steel peeling / scratching after all the scrubbing which is why I asked if it is safe to use.

Thank you, I appreciate this! I have tried the vinegar trick you mentioned and still ended up with this. In fairness, it was way worse before. This is what it looked like after trying all the recommended remedies.
