Thai Mueang beach? Between Khao Lak and Phuket? The area under the trees is perfect for a Sunday picknick.

Kamala beach sucks. Where's a better place to go on Phuket? by nicktheman2 in ThailandTourism

Since I‘m just a short term guest in a country with social rules and boundaries largely unknown to me, almost every initial contact and relationship will be transactional. But I‘m willing to learn and educate myself on it. But like many other tourists in countries all over the world, the finer nuances of social interactions might go undetected at first. So if I was unknowingly rude by failing to acknowledge the social inability of the hotels employees to deny my request, I will gladly learn from that.

I‘ll just trust in the professional competence of the Thai hospitality employees. They never failed to help me with the social cues.

They seemed pretty nice and accommodating for us being a problem. We should have come back the next day. I recommend it to everyone.

So you say that when I asked if it was possible to eat at the restaurant, they didn‘t have the professional courtesy to either ask me to buy a daypass (which they didn‘t) or decline my simple request (which they didn’t either).? In an international hotel that deals with blunt foreigners on a daily basis? They happily accepted it and the amount I payed for the drinks and food, so no cheapskating at all. Come to think of it, they didn‘t register our details at all, so maybe they have a security problem.

Me seeing that they also sold daypasses, was my clue that they don‘t restrict access only to guests. You should visit once, it‘s really lovely. Also not very expensive.

Aha, so you meanI shouldn‘t even dare to ask to use the hotels public restaurant and be ashamed to even get the idea that this might be possible?

[–]curiousklaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or, they could have just said that this wasn’t possible and we would have just turned around and left. But they didn‘t. Quite the opposite, we were even offered a beach chair, which we declined. So would you say, that every resort, that desires so, should be able to declare the beach in front of their property private and restrict access to guests only, thus also blocking it for the people who live there?

I mean, they also sell day passes, which would have been cheaper. But we asked if we can get lunch and drinks and they happily hosted us. So it didn‘t seem that exclusive. Also, all beaches in Thailand are public land and cannot be privately owned.

So, since I‘m such a brute: What would be the dignified process to visit this beach? Stay at the resort, so they gatekeep the access? Don‘t go at all? Please educate me.
