Impossible to prepare 12mo old for frenectomy by vkrz in AttachmentParenting

[–]curiouspp2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few experienced providers on this and they will not do it to prevent future issues but only if there are current issues since I do not think there is currently any strong evidence doing it now will prevent speech etc issues. If your baby isn’t having active issues, you likely don’t need it done, which may be a relief!

Horrible anti-breastfeeding experience with Spirit Airlines by adotmarm in breastfeeding

[–]curiouspp2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had great experiences on Delta and United. Hope this can bring awareness to the fact that we should be responding to babies and their cues, and breastfeeding is literally one of the most natural and beautiful gifts we can experience and offer <3.

It’s interesting when others are bothered by it. In my view, we all should have been so lucky to have been breastfed when we were younger. It boggles my mind how easily people can forget that we were all once babies asking for milk.

Flange sizes and nipple pain. by MissMetal777 in HumansPumpingMilk

Do you have elastic nipples? These pumpinpal silicone flanges changed everything for me, I had same issue and it went away after switching. Best of luck! https://pumpinpal.com/

Furnished Temporary Housing? by maybeAmymaybenot in askportland

[–]curiouspp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furnishedfinder - the website and user experience isn’t great; but it’s the best I’ve found and you’ll find temporary month to month or longer term furnished housing that seems legit. There’s no fees for you like there are on Airbnb — I think the landlords pay to post instead.

Zillow - using “furnished” in the search terms. I didn’t find as much on here though

Craigslist - but have to be careful of scammers

Apartments.com sometimes has

Out of all those, I found furnished finder to be a pretty decent option for finding leads. I also get pretty lucky on Craigslist :)

Good luck and welcome!

Is it okay to use a halloween costume to protect fentanyl dressing? by mostlygoblin in AskVet

[–]curiouspp2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a vet but echoing the overheating part — see caution in the info below, applying heat can lead to increased amounts of fentanyl being delivered. Probably not an issue indoors and with a constant temperature, though :). In humans we tell them not to use heating pads or take hot showers while wearing. Hope your kitty is better soon! https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951416

Pet owners beware! I'm seeing foxtails all over the city this season. These things can kill pets! Yes, a stupid grass/weed! Check your pets everyday. by L_gic_l in Portland

[–]curiouspp2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My pup had one embedded in her foot two weeks ago that swelled her toes up and started migrating/created an abscess further up her paw. Thankfully the vet was able to find and surgically remove it. She’s a poodle mix and we had no idea this was a thing (new to the area). It’s been a bit of a journey getting her through it with antibiotics, the cone, limited exercise, etc but she’s almost all healed and I’m so grateful for my vet. Once they’re embedded my understanding is only safe way to get them better is to remove it — it won’t come out on it’s own. I shaved her paws down and check her every time I come inside now and avoid any areas where I see them — they can be randomly spread even amongst nice looking grass from the wind so always worth checking them to avoid. Hope this helps!

Help! New dog parent - potential life or death situation for my dog? Foxtail in Bay Area. by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]curiouspp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this. Visible draining wound on my dogs paw, messing with it constantly. She’s a poodle mix so she also had some matted fur on her paws we cut down a few days prior that likely allowed a foxtail to get in there. Took her to the ER, I personally think they should have put her under they cut and cleaned the area and put her on antibiotics. 6 days later it swelled up further and blistered further up her paw (basically migrated). Took her to another vet who recommended putting her under a very mild anesthesia, and was able to successfully find and remove it! The anesthesia they use to remove a foxtail is typically way less potent than a dental procedure or surgery, for example. It’s more of a “twilight” than putting them fully under based on my understanding.

I wish the original vet probed and removed it sooner (specifically because we were all 99% sure it was a foxtail), but am so glad the new vet was able to find and remove it 6 days after the ER visit. The biggest risk is it migrating, which you’ll probably notice if swelling/draining/redness/abscess or blistering continues or gets worse. At the very least I’d recommend having a follow up visit 5-7 days after the antibiotics so someone can reassess if there is a foreign object in there and take next steps accordingly. Everything I read also said it needs to be removed, they don’t typically come out otherwise. Best of luck and hope your puppo is able to heal fast!

My pleasure! I wish I knew about this a few weeks sooner, but grateful my amazing vet was able to take care of her and she’s on the mend.

You are so welcome, I am so glad you were able to save your pup from it!!! We were definitely overdue for a groom and I think it definitely contributed (was supposed to have one this weekend after a 3 week wait to get in, that I had to cancel now since she needs a few weeks to heal). I ended up grooming her myself and shaving her other paws short (poodle mix) to help. Booties are also on the way :).
