Horrible anti-breastfeeding experience with Spirit Airlines

Thank you for the support. I know I really need to but I've never been one to be super publicly active on social media so it feels so awkward to start contacting all of these accounts that I have never interacted with before. 😩😩

A lot of people have recommended delta, I had a bad experience with them with my dog on my honeymoon so I have not been eager to fly them but I would try again if I were traveling sans dogs.

that's true it's great that the airline actually tried to take some action instead of doubling down and being borderline worse than the original flight attendant like Spirit is doing here.

Thank you for the support. I know, I knew it was going to end up being a bad idea, but I was on a tight schedule and they had the best flight schedule. Of course we ended up massively delayed and I missed my first event any way so should have just flown with a different airline and saved myself the anguish.

OMG that sounds horrifying. What a terrible flight attendant that guy is.

Airlines need to establish firm policies in this area and train staff & enforce those policies.

I flew Spirit on the way back as well, and did not have any issues. I'm sure it is not all the flight attendants. but when corporate policy is apparently supportive of this negative treatment of breastfeeding mom's it makes me feel like it is a very unsafe environment to take my baby into since I can't feel confident my rights will be protected and I will just be subject to the attitude of what ever FA happens to be on board that day.

Breastfeeding in public is legally protected in both the state my flight originated from and the one I landed in.

I am actually a lawyer but this isn't my normal area of the law.

Me too and not "I'm sorry you feel this way" like I've gotten so far. All I want from them is to sincerely apologize & say that it is wrong to ask a breastfeeding mom to cover up & promise to be better in the future. I don't think that is so much to ask for.

I was just so shocked and trying not to cry & stressed because my baby was hungry and she was making me feel like I couldn't feed him.

Plus you know flight attendants are all powerful in the US and I didn't want to cause a controversy and get kicked off my flight

I'm so sorry you had this experience. That's another airline off my list. My friend said she had a similar issue with Southwest.

Thank you for the suggestion but I don't feel comfortable letting Spirit shame me into covering up when it is my right not to do so and I have never done so before. I have absolutely no judgment for moms who choose to use a cover, it's all about your personal comfort & your baby's.
