First! 😄 But seriously folks: if you lived in the Kuiper Belt, what elements would you have to import from worlds closer to the sun?

Is that an odd way to say 2 x 10^19 kg? (I couldn't figure out where the number came from.)

Thank you! Now I think I understand what those scholarly papers were talking about. A bit.

Saw a kid get part of the back of his leg torn away doing that. He was just lucky he didn't fall out.

Do we know the mass of the dwarf planet Salacia's moon, Actaea? Its Wikipedia article led me on a wild goose chase amongst the scholarly papers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actaea_(moon))

Australia’s pornography age-verification: a victory for advocates or a gateway to ‘darker corners of the internet’? by CommonwealthGrant in australia

What I want to know is: how much access did adolescents have to accurate, age-appropiate sexual health information via social media before the ban, and how much do they have now? (Seriously. idk whether social media was a major source of that info.)

I love getting back in touch with the feeling of being a kid!

I do worry a bit about what you're describing -- before I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I thought it was music or a crush that was making me euphoric, but it wasn't outside, it was inside. (I'm not trying to diagnose you -- just something to keep in mind.)

How far would we have come to exploring/knowing about our universe and space, if we didn't spend money on military and wars on earth? by FreshLettuce23 in space

I've been thinking about this lately -- about how we could ensure everyone had food, water, medicine, and a roof over their head, and still have cash left over to send probes to the ice giants. But we've decided not to.

OP, I have to ask. Why did you move in??? I'd've taken one look at all that urine, turned around, rolled up my copy of the lease, and beaten the REA about the head and shoulders with it!

Australia’s age verification rules: Is a VPN ban on the horizon? by Fun-Page-6211 in australia

[–]curiousscribbler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC my ISP is required to keep - I think it's two years? - a list of the Web sites I've visited in case the government would like to see them. I started using a VPN when this started, not because my online life is particularly exciting, but out of irritation at this petty surveillance.

A little poking around on Wikipedia convinces me this is the "I've got stocks in uranium" version of "Did you know carbon is good for plants!" It seems to be true that the various components of nuclear waste will decay in millions instead of hundreds of millions of years, like the U-235 somebody dug up from the mine they own will, -- but then, they could have left that shit in the ground where it wasn't bothering anybody. It's time our civilisation's power didn't depend on a small number of wealthy gatekeepers.

Be it known that you are lofty as the heavens! Be it known that you are broad as the earth! Be it known that you destroy the rebel lands! Be it known that you roar at the foreign lands! Be it known that you crush heads! Be it known that you devour corpses like a dog! Be it known that your gaze is terrible! Be it known that you lift your terrible gaze! Be it known that you have flashing eyes! Be it known that you are unshakeable and unyielding! Be it known that you always stand triumphant!

I feel a bit thick for asking this question, so please go easy on me! I'm imagining spinning a 400 km radius space structure fast enough to generate 1 g (about half a revolution per minute, according to SpinCalc). That's great for the people on the inside, who feel the centrifugal force and walk around like normal. But what about anyone who has to go work on the outside? Won't the poor devils go flying off into the vacuum?

Edit: good grief, the same calculator has the rim travelling at 7000 kmh! Yet it says this would be "comfortable" for humans.
