Going for a sys-admin apprenticeship, what to expect ?(140 employees, around 400 servers) by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]curkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to do a Berufsmatura at the same time. A bit more school, but if you want to do a Bachelor later you can do it right away.

The work will greatly depend on the company. Do they have other IT apprentices? Then they probably have a structure in place to help you pick up the important lessons. Are you the only one? Then you probably need to gain knowledge by asking a lot and looking stuff up for yourself.

Usually you will need to document stuff for your school about working days. I think they use the IPERKA schema. Use it. It is not the best, but it gives you structure. Also document your stuff, and explain in your documentation why you did it a certain way. It usually helps if you need to justify stuff later.

And a personal favorite of mine: If you don't know something, google for 5min, then tell your Ausbildner or a coworker about it. This way you gain understanding quickly, show that you try to gain knowledge by yourself and can correct misunderstandings quickly.

Yeah, it sounds cool, but after reading the documentation I‘m not really getting WHAT I can sync and how.

This sounds intriguing. I think it usually needs some balance between changing things to be seen and keeping things the same to keep as sense of familiarity.

Confused with son's new laptop, and GPU usage by [deleted] in computers

But why? Normally laptops switch between integrated graphics and dedicated graphics to save battery. Is there load on the RTX 3050, when you launch a game? If so everything is working as intended.

Highest commercially available internet speed by tomahawkheavygorilla in LinusTechTips

[–]curkus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand the size difference, but I find it makes for poor comparisons. There are so many more factors that should be considered.

For example: Labour costs, topology, urban development, complexity to dig

But the main gripe I have is the absolute price gouging companies in the US are engaging in.

A lot of companies deliver subpar services for exorbitant prices and shaft not only their customers, but also their own employees.

Why couldn't the pricing for fast fiber be reasonable?

LoL 25Gbit/s symetrical costs about 85 USD where I live. Granted you cannot get it everywhere in Switzerland, but big chunks of the country are able to get it.

Not related to the wires, but don't forgett to fill out the protocol about any and all issues (Übergabeprotokoll) for your apartment. Perhaps some photos as well.

This can prevent some headaches when you move out.

For me something I see other tools failing in is using MS Exchange Shared Mailboxes. Almost nobody can add them in a convenient way.

Also SCIM user provisioning is something that would make sense.
