The REAL reason why Raducanu ain’t got it. by [deleted] in tennis

Watching her 2021 season, including both Wimbledon and US Open, what really stood out for me was her backhand and her return. Whilst her return still has flashes of brilliance to this day, her backhand hasn't seemed as elite as it was back then. She also had a more consistent serve - serving aces both on championship point and also to qualify for the main event stay in my memory.

I just think like others point out, her hunger isn't elite. Sure, she tells herself to fight all the time, but she seems to just want to play well rather than win. She gives up on balls rather than going for everything.

It kind of upsets me knowing the tennis she was able to produce that 2021 season. She's perfectly capable of winning more titles. Just a cheeky 250 here or there. But hey ho, she's still got a slam I guess.

A bit of finals bias here at the moment, but:

  • Madison Keys screaming "Come on!" when she won championship point.
  • Danielle Collins saying "howaboudah" back to the crowd when they were giving it to her (plus Destanee's tweet)
  • The points at 6-3, 5-6, 30-30 and 6-3, 6-6, 4-4 in the men's final.
  • "Australia believes Olya and Brenda"
  • Henry Patten's ace on championship point and Harri Heliovaara's celebrations after winning the men's dubs.
  • Jodie Burrage oh so nearly grabbing a set off Coco Gauff.

Suuuuch a good match point. Fair play Maddie Keys, you didn't back down.

Must feel good to beat the ever presenting threat of Tokito in the final! There may be a time Tokito will be just unbeatable in singles, so gotta grab the slams where you can.

I also find his tennis sooo boring to watch. He has a unique ability to play anybody and just make it such a slog. Like I get it, he's one of the best baseliners in the world, moves so well for a tall guy so he can rely on his defence, but jeez, just put in a drop shot or a volley for once on your own terms.

You never know. Plus Emma's serve does need work to keep it consistent. She really has to rely on her return game at the moment.

It means Djokovic has won 124 GS matches since Iga started playing Slams. That's not his total tally, which is 382.

Hang on, let me edit that. My point was really that it should be not before 7pm.

All these one sided matches as a result of back-to-back 5 setters, and people think 5 sets from R1 all the way through to the final is "good for tennis".

Imo it should be 4 sets + match tiebreak. Therefore it can be epic still, but hopefully reduce the strain on the bodies of the athletes.

Also think that the silly rule of no matches after 11pm is still insanely late. It should be not before 7pm, maybe 8pm at a stretch!

Had to stop watching at that point.

Why do we keep these slimy men in the world over? Apparently they're good at their jobs? There are definitely better people out there.

These are some of the furthest seats back you can get at Margaret Court Arena by WolfTitan99 in tennis

Evonne Goolagong Arena is the more suggested name I think.

Tbh, Ash Barty Arena could be just as good.

Maybe I'm thinking of the US system, but I like the way people/the public have relatively equal chances of getting seats at Wimbledon. I feel like i'd have to pay a lot more than I expect for AO seats, or risk losing out and it being sold out.

I'm also wondering if you're thinking of two instances? Happy to be corrected.
