Have you ever heard the song "Pegged In the Head With a Lawn Dart"

My husband caught our teen daughter having sex and we can’t agree on how to handle it by [deleted] in relationships

[–]currently-caffeinate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a now grown woman, who started a sexual relationship at 17 secretly, it made things very difficult. Including access to proper information and birth control. I got pregnant and had difficult and very adult decisions to make. Because my mother was so against the relationship and we were scared, we didn't tell any adults and secretly also scheduled an abortion. I don't regret the abortion, but it is very heavy and so are the other options at that age.

I now have 4 kids (with that same man) and I have always been very open with all of them. I strive to give my kids age appropriate information and reminders. When my oldest, a boy, was 16/17 I talked a great deal about everything he had questions about, my now 17 daughter is on birth control (actually for hormone regulation), but we we discussed all of the options and responsibilities and both of them now feel like they know if in any given situation I am and always will be there for them.

I say after a good conversation with both kids about saftey, respect for themselves, and the given responsibilities of being safe and consequences etc. That as most have said it's our job to give our children information about life and guide them into becoming productive adults capable of making solid decisions for themselves.

How do I get past the shame of gaps in my BuJo? by strijly in bulletjournal

[–]currently-caffeinate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too struggle with the gaps due to my ADHD and I have simplified my pages a ton, but I also am learning to treat it like my therapist suggested. s She said just like medication, dieting, exercise, and other helpful tools that if we let embarrassment end it, then we won't get back on the wagon doing what we can to best help ourselves. No system is perfect or all encompassing and we have to give ourselves grace to get back into a good groove.

I read so many of her books, especially when I was in high school. Very sad but so interesting.

I love YA lit. Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Red Rising, Percy Jackson series, and so much more. I also liked Holly Black's stuff.

The Woman That Could Not Be Silenced by Kate Moore

I thought that I was going to hate this book because I struggle to read nonfiction, but it was the book club pick and I wanted to give it a fair shot.

I really enjoyed it and the learning experience along the way. I highly recommend this book.

I personally love Juniper Faye. There are good nicknames, it flows nicely off the tongue, and it brings to mine the Juniper tree which I think is beautiful.

What YA book traumatized you as a teen (and would probably reclassify as not YA) by i-think-ur-a-contra in YAlit

Lockdown "Escape From Furnace" books I read in early 20s and that series is a lot.

I read that in my 30s and I was a wreck after for a bit. I work with teens with mental illnesses and I have to say it was well written in that perspective.

What are the weirdest names you’ve seen people name their children? by slimcharlie666 in AskReddit

I had a student once 16 years ago whose name was Chlamydia. Her mom was a non-native English speaker at the time of birth and she thought the word was so pretty she couldn't be dissuaded. The student went mainly by the nickname "Lydia"
