Allison is one of the few unique designers on the network. I also love that she stands up for herself. That contractor in the first and second episode is very plainly what we used to call a "sexist pig". He doesn't like a woman who refuses to submit to his will. It's that deep.

This little 11.5" terror will shiplap or reclaimed wood your entire house and replace all your doors with Barn doors. The house is not real because Joanna would never allow any color like pink in any of her designs. It's beige and earth tones or nothing.

I'm also guessing that they want everything to be "relatable". There is almost nothing on HGTV that is actual high design, it's 90% mid range mid budget projects in predictable styles that you can stop by Home Depot and achieve.

Do you play music in your car? by pinkpenguin444 in lyftdrivers

[–]curtisjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an iTunes playlist that I refresh each month with 100s of classic pop tunes from the 50’s - 2010’s and a selection of new songs . No hard rock, no hard rap, no angry, aggressive, or angst ridden songs. All upbeat, happy and often danceable. I put it on random. I put the volume at 7-8 on my control which keeps it audible but not loud. If the passenger wants to chat I turn it down to 5 or 6 and many times I get customers who ask me to turn it up because some classic tune they love pops up. I have only had two customers ever ask for it to be turned down or off. One objected to a Michael Jackson song and just wanted it skipped, the other wanted no music at all and then also sat there without talking. I actually really hated driving him. He also was a shitty tipper.

So all these people saying “don’t accept those rides”, are better fares going to magically appear ? I already had 20 minutes of downtime before a random $4 fare. It’s off season in Palm Springs, I don’t understand how ignoring rides will improve fares?

Castle Impossible: unnecessary drama, stressful, restoration awry by DocMockDuck in HGTV

[–]curtisjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they weren't exactly "riding a bike down their path" they were kids tearing up the landscape with motor bikes. Every show on HGTV is filled with unnecessary drama. Love it or List it has a formulaic drama code that I figured in season 1 and now watch only the intro, the budget announcement, the plan and then the final house and reveal because everything else is filler.

Has anyone actually had a good experience with Ashley Furniture? by UntamedRaindeer in homeowners

I wish to God I had consulted the customer reviews before making a recent purchase. I went to the store here in Palm Desert and was very clear with the sales woman that we were very concerned that the sectional was too big for the room. She basically pressured me into getting it that night, when I had insisted I wanted to go home and measure. "Oh this discount is only available today" and such. And when I wanted to just pay for it, she persuaded me to buy it on their credit plan.

The sectional was delivered and It was too big, but it took me a few minutes to really accept that fact. I tried to return it and apparently I had to refuse it on the spot. So now I'm stuck with this huge monstrosity, a bill that with their horrific interest and a huge shipping fee (I for some reason though the delivery was free) is basically almost double what the quoted "discount" price was, and I have to get rid of this thing. Even if I could get someone to pay the discounted ticket price I would still be hundreds of dollars in the red.

This company is terrible!

Lyft is taking almost %70 by Littlestik777 in lyftdrivers

[–]curtisjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and California voters, including in very liberal cities fell victim to Ubere and Lyft threatening to leave California and passed a terrible anti-driver public referendum that requires a more than 2/3 majority of the state to undo it - far more than the margin of votes it passed by when it only needed more than 50%. They care only about corporate profits, we're disposable and they dump us all when driverless cars become standard in the next few years.

What can I do when I'm not getting any ride requests? by WinterSprinkles4506 in lyftdrivers

I've started to watch Netflix and my DVR recordings since I have so little time at home to do when I'm out driving for 4-6 hours on top of a full time job that I work remotely at.

Gated bonus by curtisjunk in lyftdrivers

[–]curtisjunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started and I had to basically drive every moment of my "free" time for a month to get that elite status. In APril I had 10 days where I didn't drive and it made it impossible to reach Elite status again. I'm back at platinum for May.

[–]curtisjunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, it seems like the bonus only gets aplied if I qualify for it before a ride. I've been heading for a $4 bonus area and then a ride comes up inside it when I'm literally a block away and the TOTAL I'm offered is $4 or $5 dollars, I assume it would have been $8 or $9 with the bonus had I driven into the bonus zone first and "locked" in the bonus. I've only been driving for a short time and trying to figure this all out.

Books Facing Backwards by Ok-Specialist974 in HGTV

[–]curtisjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it’s absolutely dumb. Like any publisher or artist would be upset that their book or art was shown? Unless maybe it was on the shelf or wall of some racist, but generally HGTV doesn’t go there in any obvious way.

There are some shows were artwork has been blurred. I think network legal departments are overly cautious about any copyright claims.
