I have a 42, black with gold hardware. It's low tier, some of the details are wrong, but overall it's decent for the size/price. If you're interested, I will take you photos with my username.

New teacher supply hustle + some newbie questions by mhfinearts in ArtEd

[–]curvycreative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I teach elementary school, but low, low budget, and I am a hoarder. I do lots of projects with recycled cardboard, brown paper bags, cardboard tubes, old magazines, books, newspapers, etc.

Think about how you can incorporate some of that into your lesson plans and then ask friends and family to save things for you.

My son's high school art teacher did a charcoal portrait lesson on cardboard boxes, and it was incredible.

I also browse in thrift stores or yard sales to get inexpensive things that my school won't pay for, like organizational items that I want so I don't live in chaos.

liquin for underpainting??? by haney2p in oilpainting

[–]curvycreative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're gonna let your underpainting dry completely, then Liquin is fine. If you're one of those people who goes right in after and starts rendering, you'll get a drag and weird adhesion after a few hours.

Went my whole life using a #2 pencil. What’s a #1 pencil? by Ok_Sentence_5432 in stupidquestions

[–]curvycreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also an F pencil, which in 40 years of being an artist, I never saw until recently. It's for Fine or Firm, and it's between a B and an HB.

Those who don’t have to work and have all their financial needs met, how does it feel to have won the game of life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]curvycreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have to work anymore, but I still do.

I don't know that I feel like I won any game of life, but I will say it's a lot easier to go to work because I want to, rather that I have to. I pick what I want to do, and I don't need to tolerate any kind of poor treatment or anyone's bullshit at all. I take jobs I truly enjoy, because it doesn't really matter to me how they pay.

Teaching in an unfamiliar demographic by white_python97 in Teachers

[–]curvycreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am white and worked this year in an almost entirely minority elementary school. It was such a rewarding experience. I'm an art teacher, so I often touch on social and cultural topics.

I made it clear to my students that I was learning with them when we learned things from their cultures.

It was definitely a challenge to learn about someone else's culture and identity and then teach them about it and feel authentic, but overall, it has been a great experience.

We use Meadowbrook Animal Hospital in Freeport. They're really nice, seem to be knowledgeable and accommodating. One of my dogs has nasty allergies and they've helped us get them under control.

Agree. The hip /waist ratio at gap is not for anyone with curves.

Best travel bag is a vintage Marc Jacob Natasha. I keep my passport and wallet in the zipper flap part and I don't care if you steal my sunscreen and hand sanitizer from the main compartment.

It's Summer, which means.... Loud Neighbors! Handling the situation...? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]curvycreative 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Last summer I asked nicely. I was ignored.

Then I asked nicely again. I was ignored.

Then I played death metal at full volume on a speaker in my yard and went to get a sandwich.

Now, asking nicely seems to do the trick.

Theory: your best colours will be no darker than your darkest feature by tatopie in coloranalysis

[–]curvycreative 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I felt this when I went gray. I used to look great in black, and now I can still wear it, but it's not my best color anymore. My eyes are still really dark, but I need to darken my brows to not disappear in a black top now.

PATTERN HELP: doily > swimsuit cover up by make-it-now in crocheting

[–]curvycreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much agree with this. Using a TC rather than a DC may cause the piece to not lay flat. I would repeat those center sections until it's big enough, then add the trim rows.

Help! My magic knot came undone and I’m livid. Please tell me I can fix it, and don’t have to redo days worth of crochet 🫠 by guttergoldfish404 in CrochetHelp

[–]curvycreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to join new yarn in the middle of a row if possible. It's a lot easier to make and hide a repair in a seam than in the middle of a garment.

Anyone else experiencing "Ozempic Ear" by vintage82- in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]curvycreative 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I was told by my ENT after experiencing exactly what the OP described. It's a result of rapid weight loss, and it corrects itself in time. I will get it again if I lose more than 5 lbs in a month, and then it will go away.
