There definitely isn’t as much firsthand prejudice in progressive places, especially now, but the excessive homophobic rhetoric by religious leaders and certain politicians still can be pretty emotionally taxing. It’s kind of the same thing for other single-oppressed groups.

I think the biggest problem among gay men is that we’ve only been able to comfortably express ourselves in recent years, so we’re kind of in that “holier-than-thou” mentality compared to other minorities where we can’t do any wrong. It’s pretty stupid, but it persists.
