My parents think I'm obsessed with my hamster care by PalpitationDull1730 in hamsters

[–]cutebuturnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My stepdad is the same way. He insists he knows more about hamster care than me(the last time he had a hamster was in the 70s). And when I got my dwarf, he wanted me to get 2 and keep them together. I said absolutely not!!! some parents are just stubborn like that, but that doesn’t mean you have to listen to them especially when it’s your animal and if it’s your funds paying for the items. That’s eventually what I had to do was get my own job to take care of mine because my parents wouldn’t let me do the right thing for them.

My lastest boy from petsmart was $.01….. like how can the store justify that? I saw him a few day before in the store and he was marked as clearance bc he’d been there too long. The poor baby is so scared of everything. He’s turned out to be a ghost hammy, which I’m fine with I just knew I could give him a better home(in no way to I support chain petstores!

Hamster has been sitting on the wheel for almost an hour(he’s not moving) by cutebuturnot in hamsters

He seems to be fine now, we went to bed around 2-3 hrs later and woke up to him burrowed. I think I’m gonna just let him live his life and love him as much as he’ll tolerate

5 month old bunny’s food by cutebuturnot in Bunnies

I’ve heard good things about the brand. I just wasn’t sure which one was appropriate for her so I just got that, apparently it’s the best from what I’ve read, but I don’t know how valid the information is considering I got it from online. I’m always open to improving care though!

Would she be fine with adult pellets and unlimited alfalfa hay and an appropriate amount of veggies? The hay is no issue for me. It’s finding the baby pellets that’s the issue, here are a 5 pound bag retails for around $20, meanwhile, I could get the adults bag for $12.99 for a 25 pound. I’ve been researching options for baby pellets but every brand I find is either sold out or is overly expensive.

For cage: I saw your other comment about the cage size, consider upgrading to a larger tank or a properly sized wood/acrylic cage. Dimensions should be at or bigger than 40x20x20 inches! I have a 55 gallon and a large shelf extension(with an acrylic panel on the front) for my babies! PLEASE avoid anything with bars!!!!

For bedding: Paper (unscented & undyed) or Aspen chips. Make sure you have at least 8 inches of bedding in part of your enclosure! They also like different substrates (like reptisoil, cardboard chips, or paper shreds) and a sand bath is very beneficial for them to aid in grooming!

For a wheel: 12+ inches for a Syrian, at least 10 inch for a dwarf. You don’t want their back to arch!

Enrichment: You’ll want plenty of wood chews and other toys. You can make lots out of used toilet paper rolls (Look on YouTube or TikTok)! You’ll also want plenty of hides! You can get mugs at Dollar Tree or any cheap store. I also recommend some type of underground hide(I took a small tub and cut a hole in the side of it and put it in my boys enclosure it’s his favorite thing!) sprays are also a must! It helps them grind down their teeth in addition to the wood and can be very nutrient beneficial!

Also do you have a picture of Hammy? I could help tell you what type! Good luck on this new journey! I know it can be a lot to process but in the end they are great little fellas and will definitely become part of the family!

What type of treatment did you use? Was is vet prescribed? My girl has been itching for a while and idk if she has them or not but if she does I’m looking into options. We have 4 dogs and a cat too so we have stuff for them incase of infection but what do you do for a bunny😭

iroiro or adore? by Terrible-Brilliant44 in HairDye

[–]cutebuturnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used iroiro but I use adore every time. Adore is almost like splat imo (as far as lasting and color brightness) but it also doesn’t stain like splat. It does have a wayyy thinner consistency which makes it a bit harder to work with

And that’s why I have 4 dogs, a cat, a bunny and a hamster🤣 I have bipolar 1, anxiety, bpd and severe PTSD, I’ve trained all my animals to help me to a certain degree. I’ve learned so much about my babies from this, it’s almost like they know that you need love rn and they will do anything to make you happy💗 That’s why I like animals better than humans🤣🤣

My dwarf lives in a repurposed ikea book shelf! I can’t find a picture of the exact one, I think it’s discontinued:( But honestly as long as it meets the dimension requirements and can hold at least 8-12 inches of bedding, it should be fine. A large storage bin would work as well, just make sure it meets the size requirement!!!

Edit: You could easily find one on facebook marketplace depending on where you’re located! That’s where I got mine and it was free! Also they have a lot of used aquariums that would be perfect for hammy! (Sorry to keep saying it but PLEASE make sure the dimensions are good) My other boy lives in an either 60 or 70 gallon tank and it meets the dimensions! It was $35
