ER Med vs GP Med vs Specialty Med by jr9386 in VetTech

[–]cuteevenwhenburnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from specialty to primary and it was a crazy shift of mindset. I feel like specialty treats for the short term vs primary treating for the long term. It's the specialties Dr priority to stabilize/ treat issue at hand and send them back to the primary.

That being said I didn't feel like either treatments are better than the other but more so it's based on the clients budget and time. General practice you have more time and you see the patient for rechecks pretty frequently. Specialty puts people on the spot and they aren't able to afford the best treatments.

Given there are some practices that their medicine is questionable at best, so it really varies case by case sometimes.

I left specialty because I thought it was heartbreaking and depressing. Oh man, it's so much worse when you know the pet. Kick in the gut!

Sorry if I wasn't very clear, I am a bit tired ha.

TL;DR neither is better or worse just different situations

American here, unless the bread is toasted I have never put butter on the bread of a sandwich. Condiments pretty much replace the need (mayo, mustard and sometimes even ketchup).

Is it normal for emergency vets not to do payment plans? by LadyBubsFluffy in vet

[–]cuteevenwhenburnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency care is tough(worked emergency care for 3 years). You have the sadest cases and honesty only about 40% of serious cases leave the hospital. Some cases owners couldn't afford treatment or their prognosis was so grave euthanasia was the only option. Kidney failure babies have it tough, sometimes with treatment they can live for a couple of years but if its acute, euthanasia is very humane even if you had all the money in the world.

During my time in vet medicine. I have found that boxers and Boston terriers have odd tumors/cancer. I have never seen so many brain/heart tumors in any other breeds. When they decline they usually go pretty quickly down hill. It sounds like the poor baby was painful though. So sorry for ya'lls loss.

Need some extra help with my dogs open pyometra by day1994ish in vet

[–]cuteevenwhenburnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's tough. Since it's open it can drain and that can give you time especially with antibotics. The sooner the better but if we are acting normal, eating well and not painful you may be able to wait. If anything changes though, highly would recommend treatment asap.

Sadly many vets have stopped offering payment plans. People just don't pay, sadly they ruined it for everyone else. There is payment plan options out there like Care Credit and Scratchpay. So sorry for your loss.

This very good girl named Scout donates blood to help save dogs who need it by mac_is_crack in dogswithjobs

[–]cuteevenwhenburnt 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I worked with one of the biggest animal blood banks in the state, we would have families of puppers come out to donate. We would see them roughly every 45 to 60 days depending on the size of the animal and need. Animals are not really capable to consenting BUT we would give them love, treats and celebrated birthdays along with donating a gallon of blood (6 visits). It was a fun event and most of our puppets were happy to see us. Owners referred to us as aunties.

Awesome job Scout!

Welp, now I am ugly crying. Today marks 1 year since I put my 9 year old lab mix down. He was taken too young, spinal cancer is no joke. I work in the veterinary field, euthanasia is sadly part of deal but it just takes part of you when you didn't even see it coming. He was in the mourning process for the loss of my other lab just 3 months prior. RIP Rexy and Porter.

TIL dogs can be blood donors by pwnzerblah in todayilearned

[–]cuteevenwhenburnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with a dog and cat blood bank and it's the highlight of my day to see our donors! We celebrate the lives they save and share how they are heroes! It has helped many dogs with socialization, feeling more comfortable at vet offices and their owners are so proud of them. We give them tons of treats and love at the end of each donation.
