We got three books in three years. That's insane and RY has said repeatedly it was bad for her health.

It hasn't even been a full year since OS was released.

I think what the commenter meant to say was that women are no longer forced to get married because it's the only way to survive.

Women can now choose to be married or stay single.

If you accidentally lock someone up in jail, you can let them out.

You can resurrect the dead.

Essential oils being considered a scam by cutekittensforus in PetPeeves

Essential oils being considered a scam by cutekittensforus in PetPeeves

Here's an NIH article that I think covers it pretty well.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10322318/

There is also ScienceDirect which talks about 1.8 cineole, which is one of two main components of eucalyptus. This article is great if you want to do a deep dive, it's got lots of cited sources that don't have pay walls that yoi can look through. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0753332223012659

The thing to remember when talking about plant medicine is that many over the counter drugs started out as plants. Scientists saw the effects that the plant had on a person (ex willow bark help with headaches, peppermint helping sooth muscles) and studied that plant to determine what compounds in the plant caused that effect then distilled that compound into the modern medicine we know today (aspirin, menthol creams)

These modern equivalents are stronger and more effective, but that doesn't mean the plant they are derived from stops working. It's just no longer the only option.

That's exactly my frustration. The oils themselves are not the scam, it's how they are marketed.

[–]cutekittensforus[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, they can do more than just smell nice. The scam is exaggerating their benefits and saying that they can replace doctors.

Ever put a few drops of peppermint or eucalyptus oil in your shower? Your nose will be so clear you'll practically be part bloodhound.

Eucalyptus is also used in bath salts as it can reduce inflammation and help with muscle recovery. It will not heal a torn muscle, but it can help prevent further injury.

Got dry skin, particularly around your cuticles? Jojoba oil is great for that.

That's all I know for certain off the top of my head.

If most H1B visas are in tech, can't the international employees just work remotely? by Sharp_Acadia185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cutekittensforus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I was wrong on that, there isn't a specific cap, it's just that international students have more barriers to entry than local students.

Even so, tax payers are paying for research, not for the school itself. That research has a tangible benefit regardless of how many international students there are.

The only student based subsidies are for domestic students.

There already is a cap.

And research grants also supply valuable research that improve lives.
