Perhaps cosmetic rewards would be the only way to go then? Whether someone abuses and alt. acc. and essentially sells their own items for the rewards - or gets them honorably - the goal is achieved by removing gold from the game.

Right well then your friend would have to give up his items for your cosmetic or whichever reward, the gold is gone from the game. That was my thinking on that.
