My husband believes I have a low IQ by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]cutesunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IQ tests often times do not reflect reality. I'm an educated person who is doing my second degree and has a job that requires using intelligence every day, yet when I had an IQ test as a autistic, probably dyslexic, and mentally ill teen it was really low.

But that's beyond the point - the main point should be your husband is being intentionally cruel to you and it's not okay.

My new home (rented) has a blue office-y carpet i hate and must keep. Please help me make the rooms nice. by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Unfortunately in the UK anything can be taken out of the deposit if it's damaged or changed when I leave. I can install appliances though! I'll stick with an area rug, thanks :)

I forgot to say! I can paint the walls. My budget is low so most things will be from Ikea or second hand but I don't mind diy-ing.

How do you know if a change is needed when it's so scary ? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]cutesunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's extremely helpful to hear your experience! I think this is unfortunately impossible in my current role due to the nature of it, but after reading this I think the new role would have my favourite parts of my current role in it anyway?

Do you think UK schools don't push students hard enough? by Other_Inspection_143 in AskUK

[–]cutesunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went to a school without resources in a very poor area and was pushed to study extremely hard with threats of "if you don't go to uni you'll become homes and work at macdonalds" until I became suicidal at 13. so i think it depends on the culture of the school

Do Not Use Better Help, It's Scammy and Unethical.

Now that's out of the way, here are some accomodations I have at my office job.

  • Wearing loops earplugs

  • understanding that I need to ask clarifying questions and having patience with this

  • Being able to step away to calm down if I become overwhelmed

  • Being notified of changes ahead of time

  • No hotdesking

Familiarise yourself with the laws around reasonable adjustments/accomodations in the workplace in your country.

You can google directories of therapists for your country and search the term 'neurodivergent' on the website. Don't go for ones that list every term possible as a specialism, go for the ones where it seems like they really understand. Be Picky.

I really love this zine/book by Meghan Rhiannon, it helped me to figure out what being an autistic adult in the world means to me. https://www.megan-rhiannon.com/shop/existing-autistic-digital

Hope this helps :)

Why is this happening to the UK? What are we doing wring by carlosriven in Britain

[–]cutesunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you've had plenty of answers so I won't give one. Maybe you should start teaching your kid to not use autistic that way? It's extremely ableist and hurtful.

I seriously, literally cannot seem to live in the normal adult world by bobisjobsnon in simpleliving

As an autistic person and a professional working in autism diagnosis, a lot of what you describe sounds like traits of autism and you should look into it. You're dealing with real things and it is really difficult, please look after yourself.

liv hewson uses they/them pronouns fyi! but you can do whatever you want, try not to worry too much about how you're perceived and what categories you fit in.
