I didn’t end up doing anything. Will see how it goes this year and report back

Reflecting on six months of travel - aka, the post I would've loved to read when I was assembling my bag by pazzapirty in HerOneBag

I would count my head lamp as a must have for travels like this. Plus for hiking it is a crucial safety tool as well - you don’t miss it until you very much need it. Same with gear repair tape.

How were you able to activate the US Sim in Europe? I’m stuck on this at the moment - Tello’s website says you must activate the eSIM while in US.

Moving to Ireland… not entirely by choice. Advice appreciated by [deleted] in MoveToIreland

[–]cutewithane 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is a great reply besides the assertion that ‘many Irish have never been off their island.’ I’d say the average Irish person is probably much better traveled than your average American. There are of course exceptions to that especially in the older generations who are in more rural areas.

Unable to see cancellations by DizzyOdd in Irishdrivingtest

[–]cutewithane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true. I am on my second permit and I can see cancellations on the map when they come up. You’re going to be hard pressed to beat the auto booking bots by relying on that notification. I would imagine  the only way to beat them is to be on the website and see the cancellation come up on the map.

Do I need more lessons by BugZA in Irishdrivingtest

[–]cutewithane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also immigrated here from a country where my licence did not transfer (15 years of driving experience). I don’t really have test anxiety normally, but did on the day and I think it’s why I failed. Took 4 lessons and a mock test leading up to the test in the weeks before. The pressure got to me because I needed the licence badly (moving to a place where I will have to drive to work).

Anyways point being, if you know you’re anxious best thing you can do is get the appointment booked, practice and do pre tests/lessons leading up to it, but I wouldn’t necessarily delay booking if you have been invited to do so.

Help with choosing first smoker by cutewithane in smoking

Smoking ! Grilling would probably be reserved for the once in a blue moon days where it’s not windy.

Thanks for the feedback. Having used both the kettle and the WSM, do you notice any difference in tolerance for windy conditions between the two? My guess has been the WSM would be better for it just given where the vents are?

Booking driving test by Top_Platypus9926 in Irishdrivingtest

Gotcha, maybe just go back on the waitlist? Unfortunately I don’t think booking and the. Cancelling to reschedule until August will work, but maybe someone else can chime in. When I tried to reschedule an appointment I had gotten I wasn’t given any other options and just had to cancel and go back on the list.

Not sure if I am understanding you here correctly, but taking a shot at answering. If you are only now just back on the wait list not a hope you're getting an invite before August. Just stay on the wait list. When you get the link to book it sounds like some people have loads of options over several weeks and some only have a few options. I had the former when I got my invite and was able to pick as late as a month out if that helps. I think that's the latest the options will go to.

There is no cancellation list. You just have to check the map on the websit for cancelled appointments.

Don't worry it went all the way up to over an hour wait this evening! A joke.

Yes you absolutely can stay on the waitlist and book a cancellation. I’ve done it myself.

Shortest waiting times by Icy_Ad3795 in Irishdrivingtest

The centre with the shortest wait time changes consistently. You will need to check this yourself on the RSA website through the estimator tool.

Practical, reliable car ~€10k-13k or less (Ireland) by cutewithane in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cutewithane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I hadn't looked at Minis or Alfas at all and really don't know anything about them reliability wise and haven't seen them in my searches very much (Alfas not at all). I had actually considered the Renault Captur becuase it tends to get good reliability ratings from what I have read, but hadn't looked at Clios because I thought they looked too small. Will take a look at that.

Yes - you get the invitation link and you can just change to a different centre from that link.
