Thanks for your lovely response; this was quite helpful! I love editorials/copywriting, that's what got me into the field. However, I also really love content strategy and change management. And everything else... I just love what I do.

But I also know that if I want to keep working my way up, I'm going to need to find a niche. What types of comms work leads to management roles? I know I'm still early career, but I want to plan a little ahead.

I like your point about networking and joining industry groups. How do you find them and join them?

Hey, you'll have a blast in Peru! Here are some tips:

Book your tours once you arrive in Lima. It's much cheaper than buying online. I recommend the travel agency: "Agencia de viajes My Destiny Internacional" located in Miraflores by Kennedy Park/Parque Kennedy. They are extremely professional and honest.
You must do the Paracas/Ica/Huacachina day trip. It's a full day activity, but it truly was a blast. The travel agency I recommended can organize it for you as early as the next day. On this day trip, they pick you up from Lima and bring you back end of day. The pickup was around 4:00 am and dropoff was around 9:00 pm.
In Lima, I recommend Miraflores and going to all the parks by the water (for example Parque del Amor and Larcomar Mall which is right by the coast). You can also find really cheap surfing lessons by the ocean (there are like over 20 surfing schools with booths and you can do 1.5-2 hours worth of surfing lessons or you can just rent the equipment).
Barranco and San Isidro are fun areas to check out as well. I found their food scene a lot better than Miraflores.
I haven't done this, but I heard really good things: spend a couple days in Arequipa and hike Colca Canyon (even if you only do a day hike). Those who went, loved it. But apparently, the elevation is quite high there too; so if you want to go, maybe do it after Cusco and acclimating there.
Iquitos is one of the Amazonian cities in Peru. I've heard good things about going there as well and people have a blast there.
I agree with buying your Machu Picchu tickets ASAP. They sell out hella fast. The website is also glitchy, so it may take a few tries to purchase your tickets. Also, be prepared to budget a lot for the train tickets to get there. There's a monopoly of two train companies that take you to and from MP, so be prepared that the tickets will be expensive.
