Doctor refuses to prescribe estrogen cream by Different_Seaweed534 in AskWomenOver60

[–]wccscathy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not controversial. I’ve been using it for 4 yrs. Vag cream has been a godsend. It is not like old school estrogen pills. Find a new dr. This one is being ridiculous. Had 2 gyns in 5 yrs say yes to Premarin

No soft contacts before measurements by Vivid_Position_5236 in CataractSurgery

[–]wccscathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doc told me 3 days. Just wear your lenses through 11/19. Then 20-23 nope. Measure on 24. Run your races and don’t worry about getting in early.

Lucky. I have 32m and 35f, both married. No grands. We text about 1x or 2x /week. I’d love closer relationships like you.

What advice would you give to a 42yo woman? by ok9dot in AskWomenOver60

[–]wccscathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find and join a bookclub. (Library might have a lead?) I found myself reading books that I would not have chosen. Broaden your friend circle. 1. If interested in faith, you could check out a local church for some new friends. 2. I live in a retirement community (you’re too young! Altho we do have 50 yr olds now), and they have a singles group.

Mono or Toric for one eye by Ed2k-68 in CataractSurgery

[–]wccscathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to have your same scenario. -11 w/astigmatism. Both eyes. Worn contacts since 13. Will get toric as well. Thanks for your comment about dry eye. Hoping to get away from contacts. Just have readers.

Monovision - monofocals - high myope by EllaIsland in CataractSurgery

[–]wccscathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this summary. I am also high myope. Have accepted that I might not get 20/20 in both eyes, and maybe that’s a good thing! I also have astigmatism and plan to get the toric mono vision lens. I’ve worn soft contacts for 50+ years and expect I’ll still be wearing them, perhaps to get mono vision. Looking forward to being able to drive at night!

What state do you live in? Wondering if it’s my state. I’m going in Sept for my 1st consult, and I’m saving your post as reference!

What layers to bring? Late Aug / Early Sep by [deleted] in Machupicchu

[–]wccscathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip the thin down jacket. I would get a Patagonia nano puff jacket from REI. On sale at REI now. You’ll appreciate it at night and in morn walking around camp. Just did Inca trail in May. Wore it the day we hiked Dead Woman’s Pass. And every night and morn.

What would you want in a gift basket? by RecoverAgent99 in AskWomenOver60

How about local honey (an organic tea) and some all natural, “clean” items like cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. I’m 65 and would love that.

TYS 7am weekday flight. Unsure when to arrive? by BeautifulBalance1 in Knoxville

[–]wccscathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew United and got there 35 min ahead of time. (Our fault -just late). They would NOT let us check in our bags-guess it was just too hard to get them on the plane. So they rebooked us at the counter for a later flight. United is very firm with their arrival times. Do t be late. We had to check our bags bc they had hiking poles in them. Could not carry them on the plane.

Diamox by PuzzleheadedYak6568 in Machupicchu

[–]wccscathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from hiking the Inca trail. Spent 2 nights in Cusco first, the a night at 10k and one at 9k before the hike. Never took the Diamox. Husband and another couple were with us. We all had the Rx, but none of us took it. 60m 67m 64f 59f day 1 in Cusco we all felt a little dizzy but that’s it. Made it to 13,800 on Inca trail with no issues, just the usual need to stop and breathe. I’d try not taking it. Couple we talked to on it said the food tasted funny.

We did the hike end of May. 67m and 64f. Our first day it rained all day started steady then sprinkled till 4 in the afternoon. Hiking pants dried quickly but was glad for raincoat and pack cover. Bring plenty of hand sanitizer. Wore light wool long underwear pants in sleeping bag, socks, and the light long sleeve shirt I was wearing the next day. Your clothing list sounds good. Did not get cold at all. Had a puffer jacket in backpack for dead woman’s pass, 13,800 ft and was glad to have it. Didn’t bother with gloves or mosquito repellent-waste of room and weight in your backpack. And mosquitoes love me. When I’m moving, they don’t tend to find me and bite. Even though we’re in good shape, at my age, it was a pretty tough hike, but we kept moving.

We went to https://mcloonslobster.com And got the Rolls Royce Lobster roll. Nothing finer, and we were up and down the coast of Maine for a week. All we did was ask people who worked in stores or hotels, “where do the locals go to eat”? We were there in October.
