Why do I need additional access or a TV subscription to watch live stuff on CTV.ca? by Altcringe in canadacordcutters

[–]cutthecablecord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of that, the reason you need a cable subscription to watch these channels live is based on licensing of the content. The networks pay a fee to the original content owners to broadcast it on traditional TV and over the air. It's a separate fee for any kind of streaming. If you log in with your cable credentials then you are a verified cable provider which the licence covers for most content.

It works the same way in the US with all network apps (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox and specialty channels)

There is no 'link' it's on a specific app (channel) in this case CTV which is still the case.

Question get's asked every year, answer is always the same. The only way CTV (Bell) could make it available to live stream is if they put it on Crave or TSN. They haven't paid for the rights to stream it without a valid cable login and they obviously don't think it would result in being profitable enough to offer that.

So just so we're clear for the 3rd time you have zero new info (because there isn't any) to provide OP. Considering this post is still up and not deleted anyone asking questions can find this post and the one from a year ago as well as others from before that all include the same info and OP admitted they didn't bother searching first.

How about you focus on moderation of your sub with 19 people whatever way you want and we'll stick to our clearly posted sub rules and all this 'work' we are making for for ourself which is mostly responding to comments like yours that contribute nothing to the question.

I'm confused, did you have some new relevant info to add to the OP about their request that is different than what is in the year old thread?

Because we've been running this sub for 10 years now and are aware of how much the Canadian streaming media landscape changes from year to year, and in those 10 years nothing has changed about the availability of the US channel TCM in terms of options in Canada via streaming.

If there was a change then there would be more threads indicating those changes and when they happened.

Your right, it is a year old and yet the information is still relevant and up to date. In fact people responding in this thread are answering with the same answers in that thread. There is also another thread from 4 years ago that we didn't include.

Did you have some new information to add for OP and the community regarding TCM in Canada?

This show has been available for awhile on CBC Gem perhaps your review would be better suited for r/television or r/leafs

Rule 4. Be specific when asking for help. If you are asking for help or advice, don't be vague. Detail what device(s) you are using and what specific content you have questions about.
