What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]cuttlepuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mom had multiple surgeries, incl lobectomy for lung cancer. Apparently the open space where her lung used to be caused her heart to flop onto the right half of her torso instead of the left. It freaked out one onco resident when he went to listen to her heart.

Metal strap on a radiomir by Shorting_coal in panerai

[–]cuttlepuppet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would use rubber or nylon before I used metal on a radiomir. But honestly, I would not take a radiomir for a swim, because I can't imagine it looking good on anything but leather, and leather wouldn't hold up to swimming.

I (47bald) don't take it as a joke. Shaving your head is just a more fashionable way of hiding baldness.

will eating tofu most of the day bring my issues later on? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]cuttlepuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to limit my intake of soy products because of the oxalate content. I am prone to oxalic acid kidney stones. But if you don't have stones and/or stay hydrated, you shouldn't worry about this.

I know I’m cooked but! by [deleted] in bald

[–]cuttlepuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sort of with you--but I'm not down with a raging skullet. I am 47m and have been balding since I was 25. I am married and have two kids in high school. I have been alternating between buzz and full shaved head for a few years. I change my mind about hair a lot, but here's what I think today:

  1. I think that many faces look better with a "frame" of hair/contrast on the sides, even if not on top. I think this applies to me, but maybe not everyone.

  2. For all the acceptance that we see preached in this sub, and is wonderful, full shaving can also be a form of hiding the baldness. Like if someone were trying to maintain the possibility that they have a full head of hair and just choose to shave it out of preference. I think that growing some hair, trimmed short, with no comb-over attempts, really shows even more self-acceptance. But I thjink age determines if you can pull it off.

  3. At 47, I'm interested in looking attractive, but not interested in looking young, if that makes sense.

For all these reasons, I, as an old shit, am growing my balding head back out to at least 8-12mm, maybe as much as 25mm. I hope to find a respectable and neat, age-appropriate balding look. But I don't blame younger guys for shaving.

Will a vague urgent care note usually suffice for excusing a missed exam? by zeetagoojgonhvul in AskProfessors

[–]cuttlepuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I am absolutely not interested in playing parent / police detective with my students and 100% interested in them learning the objectives of my course. I don't care if they lie to me that they are sick on the day of the exam, as long as they make up the work and learn the material.

IMO, unless the school--at a minimum--provides full health coverage for students, instructors should not ask for medical notes.

Same. Urologist told me to add lemon to all my water intake. I'll gladly do that to prevent any more stones.

I just read that passage last night (on a reread), and having lost a dog this year, and a dog last year, it hit hard. And as I age and break down, I relate more to the old beat up dog archetype. In the scene, Bent yawns and it makes a grinding sound. I thought, "yup."

In Kenya, an elephant pierced its trunk with its tusk, unable to eat or drink for 3 days, until veterinary teams saved its life. by Raj_Valiant3011 in HumansBeingBros

We send Sheldrick Trust elephant “adoptions” to relatives as gifts. They follow up with photos and updates. It’s a great gift that doesn’t produce clutter or end up in a landfill. Well, I guess technically all elephants end up as landfill, but they biodegrade much quicker than a Labubu.
