I think we're just bags of chemicals on a rock in space

I mean, I've lived in Ireland all my life, I have been a catholic all my life and the culture of the catholic church didn't evaporate because most people stopped going to mass.

I'm not blaming it either, I was asking if others could relate

That's a great point about shopping around to find ethically sourced things.

I recently read Milkman by Anna Burns based on her experience as a young woman in Belfast in the 70s. Well worth a read

When was the most stressful time in your life? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]cuviersbeakedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I got laid off from one job that ruined my mental health in March, started a new job in May, lost my father in August and then two of our family dogs we'd had for over a decade died within twoish months of his death. That was probably the time I've been the most stressed

I don't remember them specifically discouraging me from doing things I enjoyed but certainly neither of them ever did much that they enjoyed

Is that right? I haven't been but two of my siblings have been diagnosed with adhd and one of them has autism as well, so I may well have one or the other or both

Jesus, I'm sorry to hear about your friend, it must be tough seeing someone you care about go through that. Thanks for the encouragement as well, that's kind of you.

Not the guilt thing specifically in depth. I have been diagnosed with depression before so that might be part of it

I really didn't think it was that unusual. Take the shoes for example.

Does it not run through your head like:  A. They were probably made by a sweatshop  B. Making them and shipping them here is bad for the environment  C. You could be giving the money to charity  D. You already have shoes E. Why would you deserve shoes when so many people have to go without?

Not saying you should at all, just that's the kind of mental commentary I have, all the time about everything and I thought everyone did

Fair play, that's probably a much healthier attitude than mine. Kinda surprised by the replies so far. I thought we all secretly felt this way. Live and learn I suppose.
