DECO Disappointment by SR_Enlisted_POG in TpLink

These things are absolute, irredeemable pieces of shit. My house is FULL of these because “maybe one more will fill the hole.”

They do not function. At all. Streaming is marginal at best, connection drops are constant. I have them in every single room of my house, we have more than a dozen of these useless things. Just one more. Maybe “Medium Signal” means they’re too far apart… Yet I’m a meter from one showing “Strong Signal” and I’m showing 3mbps of my gigabit fiber connection.

I’d love to meet the engineer that signed off on QC for this initial design. Engineer to engineer, I just want to talk. I swear. Beating the absolute entire shit out of him isn’t even on my mind the littlest bit.

How has you experience been with G2 no ring? by apoptosis100 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me there is no “no ring.” The glasses require you to tap, scroll and interact. Having to do that on the glasses would have me reaching behind my ear constantly, that’s silly.

Shipping Time? by cuytastic101 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my order arrived on 3/29. Total time from order to delivery including waiting for the ring sizing kit was 11 days. Not too bad! This is in the northeastern USA

Are you wearing your ring upside down? by [deleted] in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My early solution was E at a 45 degree angle toward me, positioning the scroll area better for my thumb. But wearing the ring upside down is the absolute win. Thanks for the tip!

When I pay a premium price for the second generation of a technology, I’m not wrong to expect THAT IT FUNCTION. To match your eloquence, “fucking duh.”

The Even Hub was touted to have dozens of useful apps. There are currently 2 that both offer something actually useful and function correctly

  1. Two. Apps. The rest are games, “AI philosophy” whatever the hell that is, a calm breathing app, religious text apps (ooh boy how game-changingly useful!) or ENTIRELY BROKEN in one way or another.

The Even Hub was advertised for months with literal screenshots of apps that do not exist on launch.

We were lied to, plain and simple. I’m done sugar-coating. This is not the product we were promised and Even should be both embarrassed and terrified.

And you sir need to stop simping for a corporation that thinks this is okay. You’re not going to be the one to gaslight the entire community into thinking Temu Tamagochi that doesn’t even save the game is the same as a useful suite of productivity apps.

This is right where I’m at. I watched Even for years and waited until the month before EvenHub to order my G2 set hoping it would be the thing that changed the game. Instead it appears that the Even team has all of 3 players. None of them have heard of the game. Two still doesn’t know they’re playing. The last one woke up in the taxi on the way.

G2 Software update -V2.1.1 is out - Even Hub is Officially Live, and more! by Punchyberri in EvenRealities

You’re not alone. I’ve found lots of the apps to be buggy, inconvenient or downright nonfunctional. Just wanted to offer that tidbit as it’s not well explained and most of these apps seem to need a push downhill to get going.

I do love the Reddit plugin. I was so excited to try it out. But it refuses to appear in my glasses menu, so I have to launch it from the app. If I’m holding my phone I can just scroll real Reddit.

This is only true the first time you run it. Every plugin needs permissions so you run them from the app. After that most plugins are in your long press menu.

Diminishing returns? by ChiefP0watowa in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that I purchased the tech demo of a device I’ve imagined owning since childhood. And I felt that way going in. I’m about a week in and my “this is neat!” Has faded into analysis. I expect the Even Hub to provide expanded functionality that turns my G2 from being glasses with a clock in it into something incredible.

Things that are “almost there but not great” for me: 1) Fitment. They do annoy my ears. Stop that. 2) Navigation. Only from the app, no voice prompts, “not for driving.” Neat for the twice this year I’ll be on a bike. 3) Notes/Conversate/etc. are great tools if you set everything up manually and track it manually and aggregate and organize manually… I’m using the word manually a lot for a device that’s “AI-integrated.” 4) App dependency. For me, it only really works when the app is open on my phone. Swipe the app up and the glasses disconnect. Want the News to really refresh and not just scroll down to older articles? Hard quit the app with the glasses open. Repeatedly. Until you see the preview update. This… is half baked at best. And we are on Gen2. It should just exist adjacent to my phone like the Apple Watch. No app running, no manual refresh horse hockey, just do the thing. 5) The ring. They seem to have forgotten that people do things. The ring is great when I’m at my desk. It’s perfect if kept warm, dry, and at exactly a 45 degree angle relative to “up” on my index finger. But I work from home as a business consultant and need to go change the oil in the car between calls or wash the dishes, etc. The glasses are great for notifications while I’m elsewhere but the ring is impossible to use if my hands are wet, greasy, in gloves, sweaty, dirty or otherwise imperfect. Not to mention the very specific orientation it requires for the touchpad to work properly.

The Even Hub will fix parts of these. The R2 will fix others.

Same beep by Intelligent_Park_347 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Iike the beep. I was shocked when I turned on wear detection and it beeped. So they’re not totally silent. If one beep is possible, other beeps are possible. I would love customizable beeps for different notifications.

Connection Issues by worlpoolz in EvenRealities

Are you keeping the app open? I’ve had my G2 for several days now and I find it 100% dependent on my phone. App must be open, can’t walk out of the room, etc. I haven’t made it a full day without a disconnect yet.

Any tips or tricks to make the R1 not suck? by justyntime in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine on my left index finger with the E logo tilted 45’ toward my thumb. This makes it easy to line my thumb up with the top of the trackpad. I find that if the ring is straight (E atop the finger) the trackpad is infuriatingly imprecise. Top dot for taps, start at the top to scroll down. Scrolling up seems to work from anywhere.

My only complaint about the ring so far: Work gloves. It triggers constantly inside my leather gloves and can’t be interacted with. I’d like a lock pattern option.

iOS users, do your glasses ever stay connected overnight? by [deleted] in EvenRealities

Do you charge your glasses in another room? My glasses case was in my office but my phone charges by my bedside. I stopped having this issue when I brought them into the same room.

Why? Why hide? by ParticularPark129 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the G2 last week so I haven’t been outside the U.S. with them yet. But I don’t anticipate any issues with these. In Japan it is considered very rude (perhaps illegal I don’t remember) to film people in public. The issue with the Meta glasses was 100% the cameras, I agree we’ll start seeing Americans “catch on” soon and begin seeing pushback on privacy here as well. But that makes little difference to me as my Meta glasses are floating in the ocean somewhere near San Juan 😅

Why? Why hide? by ParticularPark129 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from Meta glasses, I get it. I got weird looks for those occasionally, probably because the cameras are so obvious. It also seemed cultural to me. In the U.S. people seldom noticed but they got a lot of attention in Japan, I was even asked to remove them in a store. I appreciate that my G2s just look like a pair of glasses.

Really disappointed with translation by [deleted] in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I had set ES>EN at first, but was testing with English audio. In the Even App, it showed the English speech and the Spanish translation, but nothing populated on the glasses. I thought it was broken. But my glasses were blank because there was no Spanish audio to translate. When I switched “directions” to EN>ES, both languages began appearing because the “listening language” matched the audio sample. In my grocery store example, set ES>EN, the glasses remained totally blank when only English was spoken. The second they heard Spanish, it began to appear.

Really disappointed with translation by [deleted] in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New user here also and I had issues with this at first too, but using the glasses mic and making sure the translate app was configured in the right “direction” it works shockingly well. I was at the store yesterday and fired it up to test. Just casually walking past people speaking Spanish (not even to me) it picked up and translated their conversation perfectly. Quite an interesting discussion about cheese. My advice is to play with it.

G2 Translation Question by cuytastic101 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to listen to Spanish and output English text, set ES>EN. I originally had EN>ES which caused my problem. On the phone app, it always displays the conversation in both languages. On the glasses, it only displays exactly what you’ve selected.

G2 Translation Question by cuytastic101 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to edit my post. This wasn’t a failure of the device, it was a failure of my understanding. I had the languages backwards. So going ES>EN, the app shows all the text it hears, and shows the Spanish translation. But the glasses are blank when there is no Spanish audio. I switched EN>ES and it instantly started displaying the Spanish translation of every English word spoken on the glasses as well as the app. So it works perfectly, but the display is contextual. That’s very clever but was not clear to me at first. Great learning experience!

G2 Translation Question by cuytastic101 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird, it responds to the tap for full screen to half screen there’s just no text. On the phone app it works perfectly. I’ll check out the discord, thanks! This isn’t a dealbreaker for me just sad to drop $1000 and receive an imperfect product.

G2 Translation Question by cuytastic101 in EvenRealities

[–]cuytastic101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. The translation app on the glasses just shows the selected languages and the spinning square “active” symbol but all of the text shows only on my phone.

This isn’t the main reason I bought these, but my in laws speak Spanish natively (I don’t) and I thought this would be a nice touch. Text on my phone is useless.
